UNIL Scholarship | University of Lausanne Scholarship 2026
For the academic year 2025–2026, overseas students who wish to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland are eligible to apply for UNIL Master’s Grants. About 10 scholarships are awarded by UNIL annually.
Masters scholarships are excellence-based awards given only to graduates of international universities with exceptionally strong academic records. The University of Lausanne in Switzerland offers the UNIL Master’s Grants to overseas students on a competitive basis.

• The following programs do not accept applications: Master’s degree from the School of Medicine; Master’s degree in education; Master’s degree in law from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne; Master’s degree in criminal law with a focus on magistraty; Master’s degree in health sciences; Master’s degree in physical education and sports didactics; and all MASs (PhD programs)
Please be aware that only two specializations—”international and comparative law” and “legal theory”—are eligible to apply for master’s scholarships for the Master of Law program.
Scholarship Reports
The University of Lausanne Scholarship offers the following advantages to the recipient:
• The scholarship is awarded for the minimum legally required duration of the student’s selected program. With the exception of cases of final failure after the first year, it amounts to CHF 1,600 each month from 15 September to 15 July (or 10 months per year) for the whole term of the masters (one and a half years or two years, depending on the chosen masters).
Applicants are informed that the total amount of the scholarship is insufficient to cover their living expenses in Switzerland.In light of this, we encourage applicants to review the page that follows regarding a UNIL student’s reference budget.
• With the exception of the CHF 80.00 fees that must be paid each semester, students who get a scholarship will not be required to pay the set registration fees for the courses.
Qualifications for the Scholarship at the University of Lausanne
The candidate must meet each of the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for the University of Lausanne Scholarship:
French or English are the required languages.
All nations in the world are eligible.
To have excelled in your studies, particularly with exceptionally high academic standing.
To have earned a foreign degree prior to the start of the UNIL master’s program that is regarded as being on par with a bachelor’s degree at UNIL.
Not having previously registered with UNIL.
To be at least B2 in French or English, depending on the language used for instruction in your selected master’s program, as determined by the European Language Portfolio worldwide scale.
To have paid the administration cost of CHF 200.00.
How Can I Apply for a Scholarship at the University of Lausanne?
To be eligible for the University of Lausanne Scholarship, please adhere to these guidelines:
Documents Needed for UNIL Master’s Grants:
A passport-sized photo (in JPEG format) attached to the application form.
The application, properly filled out and signed.
A certified copy of your academic credentials and all of your grade transcripts from all university exams.
A copy of your diploma from high school. Any certificates not written in French, German, English, or Italian must be translated by a licensed or notarized translator.
If you haven’t received your bachelor’s degree yet, a copy of the program description for the final semester.
A duplicate of your identity card or passport.
• A letter of cover.
• A comprehensive resume.
• A copy of the official certification of proficiency in the language taught by the master (DALF or DELF for French, and TOEFL or IELTS for English). The bare minimum level needed to complete the course is B2.
• Two authentic reference letters, in sealed envelopes, from the candidate’s instructors.
• Evidence of payment for the CHF 200.00 application processing cost (administrative fee)

• Your application for the Masters scholarship also acts as an application to register at UNIL and be admitted to the master’s program of your choice.
