George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter receives a full scholarship to a US institution and plans to pursue a career in medicine.
George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter Gianna has received a full scholarship to attend Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston, Texas.
Following the death of George Floyd, who was unable to breathe due to a police officer kneeling on his neck, Gianna Floyd and her mother were placed in a state of mourning. Global indignation over his passing gave rise to the BlackLivesMatter movement.

Many people in the US and throughout the world expressed their condolences to George Floyd’s family, which included his wife and their 6-year-old daughter, Gianna. However, Texas Southern University (TSU) made the decision to give Gianna a Full Scholarship in the event that she chooses to enroll there.
“A fund to provide a full scholarship for Floyd’s beloved daughter, Gianna … if she wishes to attend the University,” the TSU Board of Regents said in a press release posted on their website.
The Board clarified that they were honoring George Floyd’s memory and making sure Gianna had a safe future by giving out the scholarship.
In the statement, Board Chairman Albert H. Myres said, “This Board is committed to education and understands that a college degree is one of many powerful steps toward a productive and successful life.”
Gianna, who aspires to be a doctor, clarified that she wants to assist others by drawing inspiration from her father, who has improved the world. “When I grow up, I know what I want to do. A physician. so that I can assist others,” Gianna said on GMA.
Gianna also won a number of educational honors, including a portion of the $2 million that Kanye West donated to the families of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Ahmaud Arbery. She also received a privately financed scholarship from the Texas State University (TSU) Foundation.
The TSU Foundation is pleased to offer Ms. Floyd this privately sponsored award. We are aware of the importance of education in the search for answers and advancement for future generations. Gerald Smith, chairman of the TSU Foundation, stated, “We are excited to welcome her into the TSU family.”
According to Gianna, who is keen to please her father, her father altered the world. She declared, “Daddy changed the world.”
