Starting in Fall 2025, Southern Illinois University’s Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab is looking for a deserving MS or PhD candidate. The student’s project will concentrate on creating, evaluating, and comparing multiple methods for determining the population of white-tailed deer in various Illinois settings.
Dr. Guillaume Bastille-Rousseau and Dr. Brent Pease are in charge of the position’s academic home at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is a partner in this initiative.
Qualifications for the 2025 Southern Illinois University Scholarship
In order to be eligible for the 2025 Southern Illinois University Scholarship, you need to:
• Possess a strong academic record and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, or a closely related field for PhD applicants.
• Outstanding quantitative abilities. familiarity with ArcGIS/Pro and R applications.
• It is preferred if you have prior expertise using UAVs, conducting road surveys, or collecting data from camera traps.
• An understanding of spatial ecology.
• The capacity to conduct fieldwork.
• Outstanding communication abilities both in writing and speaking, including the potential or proven ability to publish in peer-reviewed publications.
• Highly motivated with a strong work ethic.
