Applicants pursuing undergraduate degrees at the University of Michigan in the United States may apply for the Michigan International Student Scholarship through the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA).

A limited number of International Student Scholarships are given out annually to incoming first-year LSA students by the LSA Scholarships Office. These grants will be renewed for an additional four years of education. Information submitted in both the undergraduate admissions application and the scholarship application is used to choose the recipients.

The number of international students admitted to the College of LSA is still rising compared to prior years. We respect the wishes of our kind donors who provide funding for these scholarships while choosing the winners.

Qualifications for the 2025 University of Michigan International Student Scholarship

You must be enrolled in a degree program at the College of LSA as an entering first-year undergraduate student in order to be eligible for the University of Michigan International Student Scholarship. Even those who have not yet enrolled will be taken into consideration.

  • Must not be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more) each term, or plan to enroll.

Advantages of the 2025 University of Michigan International Scholarship

  • The maximum award amount is $25,000. As long as students continue to meet the requirements each academic year, all international student scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study.
  • The International Student Scholarship assists eligible LSA students with their tuition expenses.

How to Apply (Step by Step) for the University of Michigan International Student Scholarship

Interested and eligible applicants for the University of Michigan International Student Scholarship should:
• Go to the scholarship website by clicking the hyperlink below.
• Submit an application for a College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) undergraduate degree.
• To apply, students must be accepted into the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
• For enrolled students (if you have been admitted already), click the application link below and enter your password and unique UM name.
• Before accessing the application portal, non-enrolled admitted students need to finish all three procedures.
It could take up to 48 hours.

Step 1: Register here as a UM Friend.

(All university systems, including the LSA Scholarships Application Portal, require a Friend Account.)

Step 2: Use Wolverine Access to confirm a UM friend account.

To confirm personal information, such as UMID and birthdate, students should go to the Students tab, select New & Prospective Student Business, and then log in using their Friend Account ID and password. Reset your friend account password here if you can’t remember it. It could take up to 24 hours to complete the verification procedure.)

Step 3: After verification is finished, you can send in your scholarship application.
