Under the CREATE Green Africa Scholarship initiative, the European Union (EU) has awarded funds to graduate students at African universities through its Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme.

According to the MOU that the partner universities and the EU signed, the CREATE Green Africa Scholarship will pay for expenses such tuition, a monthly stipend of €1,300, application fees, student union, housing, student ID, and travel expenses.

Details of the CREATE Green Africa Scholarship:

The “Climate Research and Education to Advancing Green Development in Africa (CREATE-GreenAfrica)” initiative has received financing from the European Union (EU) through its Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme to promote graduate student training at African universities.

Through experience exchange and mobility, this project seeks to raise climate-related skills and credentials throughout the African continent. The knowledge and abilities of students, trainees, consortium employees, and other non-consortium members regarding climate change adaptation and mitigation will be greatly enhanced by CREATE-GreenAfrica.

 

The following themes will be covered in the training of 35 Masters and 12 PhDs between 2024 and 2028:

  • Environmental Sustainability (impact assessment, adaptation, and mitigations of climate variability and change),
  • Local and worldwide climate and weather-related processes for accurate forecasting, prediction, and early warning

The ability of food production systems to withstand the effects of climate change and variability; the relationship between gender, climate, and food systems; institutions and policies pertaining to climate and development; climate change and water resources; collective action; management of natural resources; and ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change.

The idea will give students short-term credit-seeking mobility and funding for full-degree programs.

Eligibility Requirements for European Union Green Africa Scholarship 2025

Applicants considered for the European Union Green Africa Scholarship must meet the following criteria: • The scholarships are open to all qualified African candidates residing in Africa at the time of application to be trained in the host institutions for respective programs in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa.

  • Note: Applicants are only allowed to apply to study in an institution outside of their home country. Female and disadvantaged/vulnerable candidates are encouraged to apply. Every application will be treated in confidence.

 

Advantages of the 2025 CREATE Green Africa Scholarship

A subsistence payment of €890 for M.Sc. applicants and €1230 for PhD candidates is included in the grant. Research expenses, travel, travel insurance, lodging, and subsistence will all be covered by this.
Insurance: Within the parameters of the award, health, travel, and accident insurance coverage will be offered for the term of the scholarship.

Research contribution and tuition fees: In accordance with the MOUs that the partner institutions and the EU have signed, the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scholarship Scheme, CREATE-GreenAfrica, will pay for expenses like tuition, application fees, student union dues, registration fees, caution money, student ID fees, and quality assurance fees.

 

Criteria for CREATE Green Africa Scholarship 2025 Selection

Students who will benefit from the CREATE-GreenAfrica project will be chosen using the eight steps listed below:

  • After receiving applications, the coordinating institution will transmit them to the prospective host university, which will then create a shortlist of potential applicants.
  • The CREATE-GreenAfrica selection committee will evaluate the shortlisted candidates and choose which ones will be awarded scholarships (based on eligibility, authenticity of academic documents, and qualification for admission by the target host university). The coordinator will receive the host institution’s compilation of shortlisted candidates.
  • The coordinator notifies the host schools, scholarship recipients, and applicants of the results.
  • If there are any appeals about the selection procedure, the Create-GreenAfrica selection committee may evaluate them further.
  • Contracts between the scholarship recipients and CREATE-GreenAfrica are signed, and they are then forwarded to the host universities.
  • The awardees’ travel and transition to and from the host university will be arranged by the hosting university, which will also designate an academic mentor to help them finish their studies.After arriving at the hosting school, the selected candidates will get reimbursement for the cost of their airfare as well as any other direct expenses they incurred throughout the admissions process.
