Details of the Purdue University Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program:

The SURF program is an 11-week immersion research experience that encourages undergraduate students to pursue postgraduate research education and careers.

Undergraduate students at Purdue University, other American universities, and foreign universities are eligible. The chosen students will work with a faculty member, graduate student, or postdoctoral mentor to do research on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette or Indianapolis.

In addition to being a compensated position, this competitive fellowship offers weekly professional development workshops and seminars to assist participants improve their technical and communication abilities.

A student research symposium, where participants present their findings, marks the program’s conclusion. Each participant is required to provide the Engineering Undergraduate Research Office (EURO) and their project advisor with a final report outlining their findings.

Purdue University Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Requirements

You must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Purdue, another U.S. university, or an overseas institution in order to be eligible for the Purdue University Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship.

Participate in the Purdue SURF program for the first time, as students are only permitted to do so once.

By the time of the SURF application, have finished at least one academic quarter or semester.

After the SURF program ends, continue to be enrolled as an undergraduate for at least one semester or quarter.
• Be a rising junior or senior; rising sophomores who are linked with Purdue, including Purdue-Indy, are also eligible.
• At the time of application, have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8/4.0 or its equivalent.
• Show that you are capable of taking an active part in most program activities. With faculty approval, requests for other start dates can be fulfilled up to one week after the program’s start.

o The housing allowance is given to all international students.To be considered, Purdue students must submit their applications before the priority deadline. They will be informed in their offer letter if they are chosen, and the sum will be added to their biweekly pay.
• Travel Reimbursement: Purdue-Indy and external students are eligible for up to $1000 in travel reimbursement. External students will only be eligible for this subsidy if they apply before the priority deadline.

Interested applicants should do the following to apply for the Purdue University SURF Program:

  2. Put your resume online.
  3. Upload your transcript from university.
