Study in Africa with the 2025 MINDS Scholarship Program | Fully Funded
With the goal of producing young leaders with a development mindset that can promote better collaboration among African nations, the MINDS Scholarship Program for Leadership Development in Africa was successfully launched in 2017.
All chosen candidates will receive full funding for the Mandela Institute Scholarship, which includes tuition, housing, and airfare in addition to a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.

Details of the MINDS Scholarship:
Africans who want to pursue post-graduate education in Africa outside of their home nations can do so through the MINDS Scholarships.
The MINDS Scholarship Program seeks to develop leaders with a continental development mindset—leaders who will promote greater unity and collaboration among African nations—through customized leadership development programs.
An applicant must have been accepted to study at one of the following universities in order to be eligible for a MINDS Scholarship:
East Africa
Makerere University in Uganda; Carnegie Mellon University in Rwanda; African Leadership University in Rwanda; and Strathmore University in Kenya
Africa’s southern region
• University of Cape Town, South Africa;
• University of Mauritius, Mauritius;
• University of Witwatersrand, South Africa;
• African Leadership University, Mauritius
North Africa
Morocco’s Al Akhawayn University, Université Cadi Ayyad, and Université Mohammed V
Africa’s West
• University of Development Studies, Ghana; Pan-Atlantic University (Lagos Business School), Nigeria; and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana
Qualifications for the 2024 MINDS Scholarship:
Applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for a MINDS Scholarship:
• Be an African national living in any African nation;
• Have been officially accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institutions outside of their country of citizenship and/or residence;
• Have received formal acceptance from one or more MINDS preferred institutions to pursue postgraduate studies within the upcoming year;
• Have earned at least 70% in each subject or course during the last two years of study;
• Provide evidence of demonstrated leadership abilities or potential as directed by the application form’s questions and requirements;
• Submit a completed online application form (see below) along with the necessary supporting documentation.
2024 MINDS Scholarship Benefits:
Depending on whether a full or partial scholarship is granted, the following costs may be partially or completely covered by the scholarship:
• One return ticket each study period;
• Tuition;
• Lodging and meals;
- A set stipend.
Required MINDS Scholarship Documents:
The following files must be uploaded on the application website in order to apply for the MINDS Scholarship. Every attachment needs to be in PDF format and shouldn’t be more than 2MB:
- A duplicate of your passport’s data/bio page.
- A verified academic record or results slip for the previous two academic years.
- A copy of the university’s formal acceptance letter. The applicant must be the recipient of the letter.
o Indicate which degree the candidate has been approved to pursue.
o Indicate which academic year the degree will start.
o Indicate how long the course will last, such as a year.
- A copy of a current visa or study permit OR evidence of application. (Selective)
- A comprehensive resume or CV that is no longer than four (4) single-sided pages.
- Two reference letters (no more than three pages each) discussing the candidate’s track record of honesty, leadership ability and/or promise, and dedication to the advancement of Africa.
