Seven Nigerians with Second Class Upper Honors (2:1) Have Won the 2022 Erasmus Mundus Scholarship
Since February, Nigerian students in 2022 who aspire to pursue higher education in Europe through the esteemed Erasmus Mundus Scholarship program have started to hear encouraging news.
Many students with Second Class Upper and Lower Divisions do not apply because they believe the scholarship is the inheritance of those who completed their bachelor’s (1st cycle) programs with First Class Honours (Distinction).

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship: What is it?
Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMDs) provide master’s students worldwide with EU-funded scholarships that cover living expenses, tuition, and travel expenses.
Students who complete the one- to two-year programs study in at least two separate European nations and get a joint, double, or multiple degree. Institutions from partner nations can also be Full Partners (i.e., they formally award degrees) or Associated Partners (i.e., they participate in the program in some capacity but do not award the actual joint degree) in the consortiums that deliver these programs, though this is not required.
Why the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?

• Reentry into the nation is unrestricted by bond.

Work experience and internships: three years of work experience and two internships
Conferences: 3 virtual conferences
Publications: 1 under review.

2nd Awardee
Programme: Sustainable Ship and Shipping 4.0 (SEAS 4.0)
Sex: Male
UG Education: Obafemi Awolowo University, Second Class Honours (Upper Division) B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering
Work experience or internship: Two internships are available in the fields of computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/M), finite element analysis (FEA), and computational fluid dynamics simulation (CFD).
Publications: One has already been released in a respectable peer-reviewed publication.
Advice: “After carefully examining the program’s goals, I came to the conclusion that I needed to make up for several areas that my undergraduate degree did not adequately address. I completed almost 20 MOOCs in the core subject areas of the SEAS 4.0 curriculum through EDX and Cousera between April 2021 and January 2022.
3rd Awardee
Program: International Master of Sustainable Drug Discovery (S-DISCO)
Sex: Male
UG Education: Second Class Honours (Upper Division) Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
Three years of internship or employment experience
Four Selected Pertinent Conferences (presentations, both oral and poster)
Three Relevant Publications the following publications in respectable journals and others: One manuscript has been accepted, one is being reviewed, and one is being written.
One piece of advice is to “build a significant level of relevant research experience related to drug discovery (publications and conferences/workshop attendance could make you more competitive) and other award recognitions.” I also suggest taking relevant online courses and workshops.
4th Awardee
Programme: Functional Advanced Materials and Engineering
Sex: Male
UG Education: FUTA, Second Class Honours (Upper Division), BSc Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
Work experience/internship: three years and seven months or six months. Professional research experience, but no publications or conferences.
