• German or English are the required languages.
German is typically the language of instruction in German study programs; in international programs, English and/or German may be used. Therefore, you typically need to present a suitable language certificate in order to be admitted to a program (for example, the TOEFL/IELTS in the case of English, or the DSH or TestDaF if the language of instruction is German). How can I submit an application for the 2025 DAAD LFA Scholarship?

Does the DAAD LFA scholarship allow you to apply for more than one course?
Up to three courses are open to you. Please do not alter the order of priority on the DAAD application forms if you are applying to more than one course. Instead, list the courses in order of priority (see 7. Choice of host university/institution in Germany).
Documents Needed for the 2025 DAAD LFA Scholarship
• A properly filled-out online DAAD application (found on the DAAD webpage)
• A curriculum vitae (no more than three pages) that details your academic background to date, current and prior jobs, scholarships you have received, current residence, and pertinent language and other abilities.
• A one to three page letter of motivation outlining your personal, professional, and academic motivations for the proposed study project. Please read Section B, Point 1 of our Important Scholarship Information as well.
Completed DAAD Form “Study course profile” (please list three master’s programs). Please be advised that DAAD does not take into account your recommendations for master’s programs that require tuition. When choosing master’s programs, this should be taken into account. Please take note of the instructions on how to complete the “Study course profile” form. Only use the link above to access the most recent version of the form, as it may change annually.
• Candidates who already have a master’s degree or are pursuing one can only be taken into consideration in well-founded situations if they can provide a clear explanation of their motivation for wanting to earn another master’s degree. Kindly complete the “Additional Master’s Degree” form.
Evidence of the language proficiency required for the intended Master’s programs. Please also read Section A, Point 9, which contains vital information for scholarship applicants.
• A certificate of graduation from a university that shows the final grade or grades, transcripts of records for each study year with all individual grades, and an explanation of the grading scheme
• For refugees: Refugee ID card and UNHCR registration/official proof of asylum by authorities or government; copies of your passport or national identification card, as well as copies of the biodata page of your passport or card and other documents containing information about you and your current residence status
Additional papers that may be pertinent to your application are optional; these could include work and/or internship credentials, evidence of prior scholarship awards, extracurricular activities, reference letters, and (expired) admissions to a German master’s program.
Please be aware that applications must only be sent through the DAAD portal.
Applications sent to other authorities or through other means won’t be taken into consideration.
On the last application day, the DAAD portal shuts at 24.00 Central European Summer Time (CEST).
Applications that are not complete will not be accepted. It is the applicants’ responsibility to make sure their applications are complete.
Please be aware that the scholarship database’s “Application portal” tab is only accessible during the active application season. The portal for this program is inaccessible once the application deadline has passed until the following year’s application season.

The DAAD Scholarship Application and Selection Process in Detail
