Norwegian Language and Literature Mobility Grant 2025
International students who want to study master’s degrees at the Norwegian Institute in Norway are eligible to apply for the Norwegian Language and Literature Mobility Grant. Students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in nations outside of Norway and at universities with Nordic/Scandinavian studies departments who have selected Norwegian literature or language as their dissertation topic are eligible to receive the mobility grant. The grant must be used for dissertation-related fieldwork in Norway.
A minimum of one month and a maximum of three months are allotted for the mobility grant. The applicant must supply the name and contact information of a tutor who has agreed to tutor the student during his or her stay in Norway, and the fieldwork must be carried out at a Norwegian higher education or research institution. The funding is intended to help defray some of the costs associated with the research stay in Norway.

Language and literature are the two courses available. The program lasts no more than three months.
The due date is March 25, 2025. In January 2025, the next application deadline will be announced. This request is for fieldwork in Norway in the 2025–2026 academic year.
Scholarship Reports
The following advantages will be offered to the recipient of the Norwegian Language and Literature Mobility Grant:
- In addition to a stipend for board and lodging, a new, unique travel grant is established.
- Grant for travel (fixed rates):
- NOK 3,000 for international travel from European nations
- NOK 4,500 for transportation between Moscow to St. Petersburg, Russia
- Travel from other Russian cities, other Eurasia nations, and non-European nations costs NOK 6,000.
Board and lodging grant:
- The award is NOK 11,800 per month and is based on the rates established by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund for basic assistance.
Qualifications
You must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the Norwegian Language and Literature Mobility Grant:
English is the required language.
All nations in the world are eligible.
The Mobility grant is given to master’s and doctoral students studying Norwegian language or Norwegian literature in nations other than Norway who are enrolled in universities with a Nordic/Scandinavia studies department. Fieldwork in Norway related to the dissertation must be funded with the funding. The Norwegian Studies Abroad Program Committee will evaluate the applications.
The candidates will receive notification regarding the status of their application.
• Reporting: Within a month of the fieldwork’s conclusion, a report detailing the findings must be sent in. In Espresso, a report form will be accessible under “My Tasks.”
• Who might not be eligible:
Students pursuing bachelor’s degrees.
• Students having the same educational background who have previously received funds from Diku (SIU) for the same project.
• Norwegian citizens pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees in an institution outside of Norway.

How Do I Apply?
To apply for this grant, please follow these steps:
1. Read and download the Norwegian Language and Literature Mobility Grant Guidelines.
2. Draft a description of the project and get in touch with a tutor and a Norwegian university.
3. Complete Espresso’s online application. Either Norwegian or English may be used to write the application.
4. Required attachments:
• a personal invitation letter from the Norwegian institution;
• a reference letter from the instructor at the home institution
5. Submit your application by March 25, 2025, the yearly deadline.
6. The Norwegian Studies Abroad Program Committee will review your application.
7. Around May, the applicant will receive information regarding the status of their application.
