NATO Fully Funded Defense College Fellowships 2025

International students can apply for a fully financed research fellowship under the NATO Defense College Fellowship 2025–2026. A stipend will be provided by this fellowship to help with travel expenses and the cost of his or her stay in Rome.
International students can apply for the NATO Defense College Fellowship to study research in Italy. Currently, the NATO military College offers eight fellowships annually in the field of military and security policy studies that are connected to NATO and its allies.
Promoting research and policy analysis in areas of particular interest to NATO members and countries that are part of the Partnership for Peace (PfP), Mediterranean Dialog (MD), and Other Military Cooperation (OMC)/Partners across the Globe (PAG) frameworks is the goal. Since the program’s inception in 1993, the College has awarded 109 scholarships in total, up to and including 2017.

The mission of NATO Defense College is to conduct research and academic studies in order to further the Alliance’s larger goals.
The overall goal is to advance research and policy analysis in areas of special interest to NATO Member States and nations participating in the Mediterranean Dialogue (MD), Other Military Cooperation (OMC)/Partners Across the Globe (PAG), and Partnership for Peace (PfP) frameworks.
The precise goals of the Resident Fellowship Program are as follows:
1. to work on subjects of interest to the Alliance in order to contribute to the Research Directorate’s calendar of activities;
2. to support studies on NATO’s agenda in nations that are partners and members;
3. to give Fellows and Scholars the chance to gain knowledge from the NATO community, gain a comprehensive grasp of the College, and gain experience working in a global setting;
4. to increase awareness of NATO and the NDC’s activities in NATO member and partner nations;
5. to give lectures to the NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC) and the Senior Course (SC) as needed;
6. to support NDC educational initiatives
7.To support the growth of scholars studying NATO-related topics.

Qualifications for Fellowships at the NATO Defense College
Candidates must fulfill the following requirements in order to be considered for NATO Defense College Fellowships:
• Languages Needed:
• A high degree of fluency in the English language is necessary.
• While not required, proficiency in French and/or Italian would be advantageous.
• Countries that qualify include those that are members of the Partnership for Peace (PfP), Mediterranean Dialogue (MD), and Other Military Cooperation (OMC)/Partners Across the Globe (PAG) frameworks, in addition to NATO member states.
Candidates must be computer literate and possess a solid working knowledge of either French or English.
• English Language Requirements: Proficiency in the English language is a must. Although it is not required, knowing French and/or Italian would be beneficial.
