Scholarship Reports
The recipient of the Maastricht University Scholarship receives:
• Living costs: €23,750 for 24 months or €12,350 for 13 months.
• €700 for health and liability insurance
• The cost of applying for a visa is €210; tuition fees range from €13,800 to €15,500 or €16,800, depending on your study program; and pre-academic training expenses
Qualifications for the Scholarship at Maastricht University
The candidate must meet each of the standards listed below in order to be eligible for this scholarship:
English is the required language, and citizens of non-EU/EEA nations as well as those from Switzerland are eligible.
• You meet the requirements for getting an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands and are a citizen of a nation outside of the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam.
• You are not a dual citizen of an EU or EEA countries.
• You have submitted an application to Maastricht University’s full-time Master’s program for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The list of master’s programs at UM that are taking part in this scholarship initiative.
• You fulfill the particular prerequisites for admission to the UM Master’s program for which you have applied.
You have never taken part in a Dutch higher education program that offers degrees. Applications are welcome from students who have participated in exchange programs in the Netherlands.
• As of September 1, 2025, you are under 35 years old.
• Your most recent grade transcript or certification of academic achievement attests to your outstanding performance in previous educational programs. If several candidates are equally qualified, UM will give precedence to those whose certified letter of academic achievement or academic transcript shows that they rank in the top 5% of applicants for the scholarship program for 2025–2026.
How Can I Apply for a Scholarship at Maastricht University?
To apply for this scholarship, please follow these steps:
(1) Enroll in one of Maastricht University’s Master’s programs that is taking part. Please visit the homepage for your potential program for more information on how to apply for a Master’s program at UM. You will be assigned a Maastricht University student ID number after submitting your application through Studielink. To fill out and submit the Scholarship Application Form, you will require a student number (see Step below).
Please be aware that UM Holland-High Potential scholarships are only available for Master’s degrees listed above.
• Please be aware that you can apply for the scholarship and UM’s Master’s program at the same time. However, in order to get a scholarship, your admission to your Master’s program must be conditionally authorized.
• Please be aware that the UM International Services Desk does not reimburse handling fees if they are required to be paid as part of the admissions process for your study program. By February 1, 2025, you must pay any handling fees your program may impose. Please check the “Admission requirements” menu tab on your program’s website to see if there is a handling charge that has to be paid.
(2) After completing the application (log in using your UM account), please submit your application by uploading the following documents in PDF,.docx, or.doc format. Please make sure that all of your documentation and referee contact information are current, as you will only be able to submit your application once. The UM International Services Desk will make sure that your entire scholarship application is taken into consideration for all qualifying programs for which you have an approved admissions status or a conditional approval if you have applied to more than one UM study program.
Curriculum vitae. Your resume should not exceed two A4 pages, be current, and include pertinent details about your training and work history.
- A motivational letter. Your motivational letter needs to be current and customized for this scholarship program. We will reject generic letters of admission that don’t specifically discuss why you were chosen for the UM Holland-High Potential award. The maximum length for your letter of motivation is one A4 page. Make sure to explain why you should be chosen, why this scholarship is essential to you, and what your responsibilities as an ambassador of Maastricht University will be both during your scholarship time and in the years after your graduation from UM.
- Evidence of superior academic standing. To demonstrate your academic prowess, you can upload one of the following files: 1. Your university transcript that clearly shows your overall grade point average or class ranking (i.e., first class honors); or 2. A letter from the registrar or head of department at your university certifying that you are among the top 20 students in your program’s final year. Please make sure your department head or registrar’s contact information is included in the letter.
•One referee’s contact data. Please be aware that we get in touch with your referee to verify their legitimacy. Thus, while selecting a referee and sending in their information, make sure to follow these procedures.
– Relationship to applicant: state how your referee is related to you, such as whether they are your employer, thesis advisor, or lecturer. Please keep in mind that relatives might not serve as referees.
– Your referee’s work phone number: Don’t forget to enter the calling code for the relevant country.
Your referee’s work or institutional email address. Only personal email addresses will not be accepted in letters.(3) Please make sure that all of your documentation and referee contact information are current, as you will only be able to submit your application once.
- By midnight on February 1, 2024 (Central European Time), you must get in touch with the reference you listed on your application and request that they send their letter of recommendation to hhp.scholarship@maastrichtuniversity.nl via email.
• To help your referee write a strong reference letter on your behalf, we have created guidelines for scholarship reference letters. Please print them off or send them to your referee. Please be aware that referees cannot be family members; they must be (former) professors, lecturers, or employers. Letters of recommendation must be written and dated by February 2025 at the latest. Additionally, please be aware that it is your duty to communicate with your referee and make sure they send in their letters on time.
Please be sure to promptly engage with your referee regarding this crucial phase in the scholarship application process, as applications for which we have not received reference letters are regrettably incomplete.
