International students can apply for a fully financed master’s scholarship under the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2024–2026. The JJ/WBGSP scholarship will pay for the entire cost of education, housing, economy airfare, and a monthly living allowance.

If you are not accepted into one of these programs, you are not eligible for a JJWBGSP Scholarship. Scholarship Reports
The following advantages are offered to the recipient of the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program:
• Economy class airfare between your home country and the host university at the beginning of your study program and right after the scholarship period ends. Scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip in addition to two-way airfare;
- tuition for their graduate program and the cost of basic health insurance purchased through the university; and a monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living expenses (rooms, food, etc., including books) while they are on campus during the scholarship period. The allowance’s amount varies based on the host nation.
Note that all of the JJ/WBGSP scholarships are awarded for the length of the graduate program or for two years, whichever is shorter.
The following expenses are not covered by the JJ/WBGSP scholarship:
• Visa application fees
• The cost of bringing and/or providing for a scholar’s relatives;
• Extracurricular training or classes;
• Courses that don’t count toward the graduate degree’s minimal credit requirements;
• The graduate program does not offer language instruction;
• Extra travel that takes place throughout the study program;
• Research-related costs, additional educational resources, field excursions, workshops/seminars, or internships; or
• Computers and other educational equipment.

Qualifications for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program
The following requirements must be fulfilled by applicants in order to be eligible for The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program, or JJWBGSP:
• English is a required language.
• All nations across the world are eligible.
• Not own dual nationality with any developed nation;
• Have a healthy body;
• possess a bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, obtained three years or more before the application deadline;
- Be working in development-related work in a paid full-time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application;
- Have at least three years of recent work experience after receiving a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree. The only exemption to this rule is for citizens of developing nations who come from a nation that is included in the most recent list of fragile and conflicting states that is made available to applicants in the Application Guidelines for every scholarship call.
- Be admitted unconditionally (apart from financial aid) to at least one of the master’s programs offered by the JJ/WBGSP preferred universities for the upcoming academic year, and be based outside of the applicant’s country of citizenship and residence as specified at the time the scholarship application deadline is open. Prior to submitting your application, you must upload the letter of admission.
- Not hold any position with the World Bank Group as an Executive Director, his or her alternate, or staff member, or be a close relative of any of the aforementioned by blood or adoption; “close relative” is defined as: mother, father, sister, half-sister, brother, half-brother, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew;Note that all eligibility requirements are rigorously followed. There are no exceptions. During an open call for applications, the eligibility requirements WILL NOT alter. However, between the end of one application procedure and the start of the next, this information could alter.
