Google Fellowship Program 2025 | Annual Grant of $85,000
The Google Fellowship Program links graduate students with a Google Research Mentor and provides direct support for their academic endeavors.
Up to $85,000 is given to fellows of the Google PhD Fellowship to cover stipends, other research-related expenditures, and travel costs, including international travel.

At Google, fostering and upholding solid ties with the academic community is a primary goal of the Google PhD Fellowship Program.
In order to honor outstanding graduate students conducting outstanding and creative research in computer science and related subjects, the Fellowship Program was established.

Qualifications for the Google PhD Fellowship Program in 2025
The PhD Fellowship program is open to both professionals and students.
For current PhD Students
- Candidates must be enrolled full-time in an African university’s PhD program. Candidates are also encouraged to apply if they are transitioning to full-time jobs and are in their first year of a part-time PhD program.
- Students ought to be early PhD candidates, meaning they shouldn’t have completed more than a year of their degree. Candidates must have begun their program on or after January 1, 2022, in order to be eligible for the 2022 Fellowship.
- In order to keep their Fellowship, students must continue their studies in the PhD program.
Candidates must be working toward a PhD in computer science or a similar field.
5. Google employees are not eligible, nor are their families.
6. Students are ineligible if they are currently receiving another business fellowship.
For present professionals and undergraduate/master’s students
- In order for this group of applicants to be granted the fellowship, they must enroll in a full-time PhD program at an African university within the award year.
- Applicants must be enrolled full-time at an African university as undergraduate or graduate students. Professionals must work for or be connected to an African-registered organization.
- The Google Fellowship award will be rescinded if the recipient does not enroll in a full-time PhD program in computer science or a related field at an African university by the end of 2022.
- A Google Fellowship grant does not entitle the recipient to enroll in a university’s PhD program. Additionally, the recipient must finish the PhD admissions procedure at the institution or institute where they intend to enroll.
- The Google Fellowship grant shall be governed by the policies and procedures of the organization or university where the recipient enrolls in the PhD program.
- Eligibility is not available to Google employees or their families.
Benefits of the Google Fellowship Program:
Students are awarded named fellowships, which come with financial awards. The money is sent straight to the institution, where it will be used to pay for the student’s tuition and stipend as needed.Furthermore, a Google Research Mentor will be assigned to the student, who we think will prove to be an invaluable resource.
Fellows will receive the following, depending on the nation:
- A fellowship for up to three years
- Google Research Mentor Up to $50,000 to cover stipend and other research-related expenses, including international travel
Documents Needed for the Google Fellowship Program
In order to fill out an application (in English only), students will require the following documents:
- A student applicant’s resume that includes, if possible, links to publications and websites
- Transcripts (mark sheets) that are now available, beginning with the first year or semester of a bachelor’s degree
- Research proposal (no references, no more than three pages)
- Two to three recommendation letters from people who have seen the applicant’s work (at least one from the thesis adviser for PhD students already enrolled)
- The student’s advisor for the PhD program’s brief (one-page) CV
o The 350-word essay response from the applicant to the question: How will getting this scholarship affect your education?
o Explain any situations that have affected your need for a scholarship and the learning objectives you hope to achieve with it.

Students from Africa, America, Canada, Australia, and Europe cannot apply directly to the Google Fellowship Program; instead, they must be nominated by an eligible university during the application period. Interested and qualified applicants should do the following to apply for the program:
