Fully Funded 2025 MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship

International students can apply for fully financed MEXT University Recommendation Scholarships 2025–2026. Both master’s and doctoral degrees are eligible for these awards. The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship will pay for all living expenses, economy class airfare, and 100% of tuition.
International students are welcome to apply for the MEXT Scholarship at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), located in Japan. Outstanding overseas students who have been recommended by APU are given this scholarship.
This scholarship is offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) in an effort to boost global competitiveness and encourage international students to actively participate in exchange programs at Japanese universities. Outstanding, qualified applicants will be instantly recommended to the scholarship organization by APU.

Scholarship Reports
The following advantages are offered to the recipient of the MEXT Scholarship University Recommendation:
• The APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship covers 100% of tuition.
• A monthly living expense budget of 144,000 JPY (subject to change)
• Beginning and ending the program, international students must fly in economy class between their home country and APU.
• During their first year at APU, incoming international students must live on campus in AP House, the university’s dorm (out of funding).
Qualifications for the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship
The candidate must meet each of the standards listed below in order to be eligible for the MEXT Scholarship University Recommendation:
• English or Japanese is the required language.
• All nations in the world are eligible.
• Be born on or after April 2, 1989;
• Have a GPA of at least 2.30 on a 3.00 scale at their most recent institution;
• Not be Japanese and be a national of a nation with diplomatic ties with Japan;
• Have plans to study abroad in Japan from overseas.
• This scholarship is not available to civilians working for the military at the time of application or those on active military duty.
Candidates for this scholarship cannot have previously received a MEXT scholarship unless they have more than three years of educational research experience following the final payment of the previous MEXT scholarship award; recipients must be able to arrive in Japan within the arrival period specified by APU; applicants may not be applying for another MEXT scholarship; and recipients of this scholarship may not receive a scholarship from another scholarship organization while enrolled at APU.
• Applicants for this award must be students with a valid visa who reside in Japan.

• Method of Selection:
• After reviewing application materials, APU chooses deserving applicants to suggest to MEXT.
• Those who are recommended for this scholarship receive notification of their final APU application status.
• Selected candidates fill up extra MEXT (SGU) application forms and send them to APU.
• MEXT makes the final decisions about scholarship awards.
