Applications for the British Academy International Fellowship program are being accepted by the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH).
The British Academy International Fellowship’s main goal is to draw and keep up-and-coming talent in the UK and create a workforce of mobile, globally linked researchers and innovators. The goals are to:
- Provide opportunities for early career researchers to learn and transfer new skills and knowledge through career development and training;
- Encourage long-term relationships through networking opportunities and the International Fellowships alumni program;
- Encourage talented international early career researchers to establish and conduct their research in the UK;
- Support early career researchers in pursuing innovative and high-quality lines of research.
Qualifications for the British Academy Fellowship in 2025:
You must:
- Have a PhD to be eligible for the British Academy Fellowship; applicants who are nearing the end of their PhD will be admitted as long as their PhD is finished, including the viva, before the Fellowship’s start date. Prior to the confirmation of any fellowship award, the PhD award must be confirmed.
- At the time of application, candidates should have no more than seven years of active, full-time postdoctoral experience (including teaching and/or industry work, but excluding career gaps).
- Have a job outside of the UK.
- Does not possess UK citizenship.
- Possess proficiency in both written and spoken English.
- Work with a UK host researcher to agree on a well-defined and advantageous research plan.
The 2025 British Academy International Fellowship has the following advantages:
• The grant is given at 80% FEC and provides funding for two years.
• Up to £12,000 in research fees and up to £8,000 in relocation costs are available to applicants.
• Applicants must provide evidence to support the amount of relocation and research expenditures they have requested in their application.

The British Academy International Fellowship 2025 Application Process
Applications for the British Academy International Fellowship must be sent via email by 12:00 PM BST on Friday, February 7, 2025, to Dr. Russell Re Manning, Deputy Center Administrator, at rrm24@cam.ac.uk.
• Applications must be evaluated and chosen for submission to the British Academy by this internal deadline, which is probably around mid-March 2025.
The following should be included in applications:
- A two-page curriculum vitae that includes the dates of your PhD viva and award.
- A publishing list (no more than one side).
- An internal selection form filled out.
- The name and contact information of one referee who is not your mentor or PhD supervisor and who is ideally located in the UK.
