Exceptional Nigerian man bags Accounting degree with 4.98/5.00 first-class, wins ₦10million as LASU’s best graduating student
Following his exceptional achievement as the overall best-graduating student at Lagos State University (LASU), Nigeria, a bright Nigerian guy named Olaniyi Mubarak Olawale was given a monetary prize of 10 million naira.
With an impressive first-class honors of 4.98 above 5.00 overall grade points, Olawale earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting education from LASU. In the university’s 2022–2023 graduating class, he received the highest grade point total.
Olawale explained in his farewell address how he accomplished the accomplishment in spite of his lowly origins and the belief that education programs are only for less bright students.

He stated that his mother passed away when he was still very young and that his father, a woodseller, paid for his schooling.
He said, “As the son of a wood seller and a late mother, I address you today with great humility. I defied expectations by emerging from a faculty that was wrongly labeled as an asylum for students with low intellectual quotients or students gifted with courses different from their desires.”
The vice chancellor of Lagos State University, Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello announced Olawale as the overall best-graduating student out of 8,670 students that were convicted for the academic session.
Olawale received a cash prize of 10 million naira for his exceptional achievement from Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who attended the convocation ceremony.
He posted on Facebook that the purpose of the prize was to inspire Olawale to continue reaching new heights.
It’s no minor accomplishment to graduate with a CGPA of 4.98, therefore Olaniyi deserves my congratulations. This is a very happy occasion for all of us, not just for you. “I announce a token of N10 million to honor and celebrate you,” he remarked.
Olawale added that the governor has had a major influence at the university and thanked him for the monetary award.
