Brussel Scholarships at Vrije Universiteit 2025

International students are eligible to apply for VUB Scholarships for the European Master of Science in Photonics program. To offset the cost of living associated with studying in Brussels, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel will award a number of full scholarships worth 10,000 EUR year.
Vrije Universiteit Brussel is an internationally oriented university located in Brussels, the center of Europe. Through specialized, top-notch research and instruction, VUB hopes to effectively and actively contribute to a stronger culture for the future. All applicants who intend to enroll at Vrije Universiteit Brussel will have the opportunity to demonstrate their technical knowledge during the entry evaluation that takes place before final acceptance. Each grant request will be evaluated based on competency and encouragement once our program has been approved.
VUB’s Brussels Photonics Research Group, or B-PHOT, also provides talented scholars with competitive scholarships. The VUB Photonics research group may award a B-PHOT Excellence Scholarship to any student enrolled in the MSc program without the need for a separate implementation process. Candidates for the B-PHOT Excellence Scholarship are required to complete an MSc. VUB thesis. Students who successfully demonstrate their skills and applications, graduate with honors, and pursue a PhD at VUB B-PHOT will be encouraged to do so. The new VUB B-PHOT Excellence Scholarships are now available to all incoming international students.
Scholarship Overview

Courses Offered: The studentships are given out in the areas of photonics, engineering, and bridging physics. Candidates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, (Applied) Physics, Materials Sciences, or a related field are eligible to apply. Students who are in their last year of these programs will also be taken into account. Through a customized preparatory curriculum, applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in another engineering discipline are able to enroll in the program. It is possible to combine this preparation curriculum with a particular bachelor’s or master’s degree.
Applications for the 30-credit preparatory program are open to Belgian bachelor’s degrees in IR architecture, physics, chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology, industrial science—including electronics and information and communications technology—engineering science, or KMS Polytechnical Department. Scholarship Reports
The winner of a VUB scholarship receives the following benefits: VUB Scholarships for European Master of Science in Photonics Students enrolled in VUB’s European Master of Science in Photonics program are eligible to receive several full scholarships of 10,000 EUR annually from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The cost of living associated with studying in Brussels is anticipated to be covered by this scholarship. Each application will be evaluated based on its motivation and quality.
Scheme for the B-PHOT Excellence Scholarship
• At the start of the first semester of the MSc program, there are three entry scholarships worth 1000 euros. The three top-ranked pupils based on our selection criteria are the beneficiaries.
• The top three students based on their academic achievement from semester one will receive three continuation scholarships, each worth 1500 euros, at the beginning of the second semester of the first year of the MSc. The Continuation Scholarship will also be awarded to students who were not awarded the Entry Scholarship.
• At the beginning of the second year of the MSc, one Excellence Scholarship, valued at 5,000 euros, will be given out.
Qualifications for the VUB Scholarship
The candidate must meet each of the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for the VUB Scholarship:
• All nations in the world are eligible.
English is one of the required languages. Language proficiency criteria for students from other countries:
• A TOEFL-TEST score of at least 570 (paper-based) or 87 (internet-based), obtained as recently as within the previous two years
• A valid IELTS “test report from” (TRF), issued no more than two years ago, with a minimum overall band score of 6.0
• First Certificate in English (FCE) Cambridge-ESOL
• Those who possess a secondary or higher education diploma from an accredited Flemish Community institution are excused from providing documentation of their language skills.
If you have successfully finished at least one year (60 credits) of secondary or higher school where English was the primary language of instruction, you are also exempt from taking a language exam (an official certificate must be supplied).
• Note: You can always submit the APS certificate or proof of English proficiency later rather than missing the deadline if it is not available before then.
