Brilliant Nigerian lady bags first-class degree in Petroleum Engineering, wins UK Chevening Scholarship

Hajara Kabeer, a talented Nigerian woman, graduated with honors from Nile University in Abuja, Nigeria, with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. She also received the esteemed Chevening Scholarship from the United Kingdom.

Hajara revealed on LinkedIn that she graduated with first-class honors from Nile University in Nigeria with a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum and Gas Engineering.

I received a first-class Bachelor of Engineering degree in Petroleum and Gas Engineering from Nile University of Nigeria. For this incredible testimony, I am incredibly thrilled and grateful to Allah Almighty,” she remarked.

She said the academic journey was challenging, and there were times when she felt like backing out or lost hope but she persevered with determination and prayers because she had a vision and a dream to actualize.

Hajara said while an undergraduate, she was active and productive in several activities which included the Society of Petroleum Engineers International. She wrote technical papers and did Internship programs at Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company SNEPCO.

She also interned in the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Oriental Energy Resources Limited. Hajara said she participated in oil and gas online courses, women’s development programs, women in engineering programs, personal development as well as some skills acquisition.

Her outstanding achievement earned her the prestigious Chevening Award to study for her master’s degree in the United Kingdom. The Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship program, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations.

The Chevening Scholarship covers the full cost of studying for a master’s degree in the UK, including any additional, accommodation, visa, and travel expenses you may incur as an international student. For more information on how to apply, check HERE.

Hajara said the scholarship will open the door to broaden her horizon, and sphere of influence and help her make a greater impact in the areas of Sustainable Energy, Girl-child STEM Education, and Women’s Development.

According to her, she will use the scholarship to pursue a Master of Science in Economics and Policy of Energy and Environment at University College London (UCL), one of the top 5 colleges in the UK.

Out of thousands of candidates, Hajara thanked UKinNigeria and the Chevening Awards for providing her with the chance.

She stated that she is thankful to God for her selection in the very competitive process, which she views as the result of both heavenly favor and diligence rather than just her own hard work.

Hajara expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped her along the way, particularly those who advised and mentored her. She expressed her gratitude to her professor for recommending her during the application process.
