Austria’s 2025 Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship

International students from all over the world who are interested in conducting postdoctoral research at Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) for the academic year 2025–2026 are eligible to apply for the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship. Depending on the extent of the consulting work, each scholarship recipient is given a consulting fee. For the duration of the scholarship, the cost cannot be more than EUR 10,000.

The “Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship” was created by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) to replace the economic research prizes that were previously given out by its Economic Analysis and Research Department. Through this scholarship, exceptional researchers can offer consulting services to support the wide variety of research activities at the OeNB’s Economic Analysis and Research Department.

The Scholarship program is intended for Austrian and foreign professionals with postdoctoral research experience and a track record of successful economics and finance research. In an era of growing international research mobility, candidates must be actively employed by a research institution in Austria or elsewhere and have a desire to expand their personal research networks and horizons.

Scholarship Reports

The following advantages are offered to recipients of the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship:
• A consulting fee is awarded to each recipient, contingent on the extent of the consulting work. For the duration of the scholarship, the total cost (net of value-added tax) cannot be more than EUR 10,000. This payment will cover all of the scholarship recipient’s claims against the OeNB.

• The consulting price will be raised by the applicable sales tax rate, which is presently 20%, if the services are subject to value-added tax.
Note: During the consulting term, the scholarship recipient covers their own lodging costs. If it is feasible, the OeNB will help the honoree locate lodging in Vienna.

 

Qualifications for the Klaus Liebscher Scholarship in Economic Research

The following factors should be taken into account in order to qualify for the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship:
• English is the required language.
• All nations in the world are eligible.
• In addition to having published work and conducted scientific research in the disciplines listed in the call for scholarship applications, eligible candidates must have earned a PhD or an equivalent degree.
• There is no upper age limit, and applicants may be of any nationality.
• We will only accept applications from natural persons. The Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship program does not allow applicants to submit more than one application.

  • Qualified applicants must be respected authorities in economics with a strong track record and a strong sense of belonging to their research community.
    • At the time of application and throughout the duration of the scholarship award, applicants must demonstrate that they are currently employed by a research organization.
    • Applicants cannot reapply if they have already been awarded a scholarship under the program. Applications for renewal will not be considered either.
    • Scholarships are not available to employees of the European Central Bank or any other central bank in the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

How Can I Apply for a Scholarship in Klaus Liebscher Economic Research?

To apply for the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship, please follow these steps.
(1) Give the following records and details:
• A motivational letter that specifies the anticipated duration of the consultation.
• An academic curriculum vitae;
• A summary of current research subjects and activities;
• A comprehensive consultation proposal
• A current list of publications (or an excerpt from them)
• The names of two references the OeNB can get in touch with to learn more about the applicant.

Proof of basic income (a contract of work with the applicant’s home institution) for the duration of the scholarship, which includes the OeNB consulting time.
•The home institution has provided written assurance that the scholarship, which involves the applicant providing consulting services, does not conflict with the applicant’s employment agreement with the home institution.
