These scholarships give individuals from developing nations, especially those in the Indo-Pacific area, the chance to pursue full-time undergraduate or graduate studies at accredited Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) establishments.

Qualifications for Scholarships from the Australia Awards:
In order to be eligible for an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia committing to abide by the scholarship’s terms.
After receiving their fellowship, recipients must depart Australia for at least two years. If this isn’t done, the scholar will be liable for the entire amount of their scholarship.
Australia Awards Scholarship Benefits:
Typically, the scholarship benefits consist of:
- Full tuition expenses
- Return flight travel: purchasing a single ticket in economy class to and from Australia using the quickest possible route
- Establishment allowance: a one-time payment used to help with study materials, textbooks, and lodging costs
- Contribution to Living expenditures (CLE): a biweekly payment made at a department-determined rate toward basic living expenditures.
- The Introductory Academic Program (IAP), a required course that covers living and studying in Australia before formal academic studies begin
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the period of the award (for award holder only)–provided to cover the scholar’s basic medical costs (with the exception of pre-existing conditions)
- Additional academic support may be given to guarantee a scholar’s academic success or improve their academic experience; if determined essential, pre-course English (PCE) costs may be paid for students for in-country and/or in-Australia training.
- Eligible research students may be eligible for fieldwork (for research awards and Masters by coursework that require fieldwork) for one return economy class flight via the most direct route to their country of citizenship or within Australia.
