Scholarship Reports
The following advantages are offered to the winner of an ARES Scholarship:
Scholarship amounts for bachelor’s and master’s degrees:
• The cost of international travel is limited to one round-trip ticket per academic year in economy class on an airline that has been certified by IATA.
• Living allowance: €1150 per month for a 12-month period.
• 150 Euros is the indirect mission charge. This sum is awarded at the grantee’s arrival, once per stay.
• 700 € for return fees, tuition, and arrival allowance. This sum is awarded at the grantee’s arrival, once per stay.
• DGD grantees must pay registration fees at the current rate.
• ARES pays insurance premiums directly.
• Reimbursement for travel expenses related to intercollegiate training is granted based on actual expenses spent, supported by receipts.
Grant amounts for a training course include:
• International travel expenses, including one round-trip ticket in economy class on an airline approved by IATA.
• Living allowance: 83 euros per day for stays of 8 to 17 days; 1400 euros per month for stays of 18 days to 1 month (fixed amount); 1400 euros per month for stays of 1 to 6 months, prorated by the number of days
• 150 euros for indirect mission fees. This sum is awarded at the grantee’s arrival, once per stay.
• ARES pays insurance premiums directly.
• Travel costs for intercollegiate trainings are compensated according to actual costs, with documentation given.
Qualifications for ARES Scholarships
Applicants must fulfill the following requirements in order to be eligible for ARES Scholarships:
• French and English are required languages.
Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for English-language training courses), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, the Philippines, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam are among the countries that are eligible.
• Have citizenship in a developing nation. Applicants must be living and working in their home country at the time of application in order to be eligible.
• At the start of the training, the participant must be younger than 40 for degree programs and younger than 45 for training courses.
Hold a degree from a Belgian university that is equivalent to a graduate-level degree. However, alternative needs could be asked for for specific training courses.
• Have at least two years of relevant work experience in a developing nation following graduate school, or three years if the applicant has a post-graduate degree from an industrialized nation’s university.
• Be proficient in both written and spoken French. Proficiency in the language of instruction, both in writing and speaking, is necessary for training programs that are conducted in a different language. To participate in Belgian daily life, the applicant must dedicate themselves to learning French.
• Only one training course should be applied for.
How Do I Apply for Scholarships at ARES?
To apply for ARES Masters and Internship Scholarships, please follow the crucial instructions below:
1. First things first, make sure your GIRAF account is current.
• By clicking this link, you can register for an account on the GIRAF platform. ARES will authenticate this account (within a few hours to a few days; avoid creating multiple accounts) and send you a confirmation email asking you to set a password.
• If you made a verified account the previous year, you can use it again and change your password if needed.
2. You can access the application form through the Competitive calls tab of your GIRAF profile after logging into your GIRAF account. Please be aware that the “International training application 2025-2026” button requires a single click. After that, you may locate your form in the Competitive calls’ “My Tasks” section.
3. If you select “Save and edit later,” you can fill out your form more than once. Your form is always located in the Competitive calls tab’s My Tasks table in GIRAF.
4. Once you select “Submit my application,” your application is forwarded to ARES, and you are unable to make any changes to it. It is still available in the table under “My submitted files.”
