Aminat Ige, a bright Nigerian lady, received the overall best-graduating thesis award and a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Lagos in Nigeria.
Aminat, who teaches mathematics at Lagos State University (LASU), won the University of Lagos’ (UNILAG) Overall Best PhD Thesis award for the 2022–2023 academic year.
Her thesis, “O-Metric Spaces: A Novel Unification and Generalization of Metric-Type Spaces With Applications In Fixed Point Theory,” earned her a PhD in mathematics.

Aminat, who shared her accomplishment on Facebook, said she credits her success to her superiors, pointing out that one of them had previously received the same honor. She also mentioned how helpful their assistance was.
“My supervisors are responsible for my success.” Before they receive the ultimate reward, may the Almighty reward them here on earth. I will always be grateful to Golden Professor Johnson Olaleru and Dr. Hallowed Olaoluwa, who previously received the same honor. “Your assistance is priceless,” she remarked.
Aminat also credited her late father with helping her succeed, saying that the foundation he established for her is what made her successful.
In a related tale, Tijjani Hassan El-badawy, a bright Nigerian, received the university’s top postgraduate student award and earned a doctorate in petroleum engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
