After beating his peers to become the school’s top student, an 18-year-old homeless youngster is accepted to a US institution.
Despite experiencing homelessness since childhood, Martin Folsom, an extraordinary 18-year-old boy, has become the top student at the A. Philip Randolph Career and Technical High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States.
Martin Folsom and his mother, Melva, lived in a shelter. Despite the difficulties they encountered, he was able to maintain his focus on his studies, and his efforts were rewarded when he received a 4.06 GPA and was chosen valedictorian of his class.
It was a pleasant feeling because it gave me a slight jolt in the chest. In a video interview that KTRK released, Folsom stated, “It means a lot and it gives me a sense of all I’ve done and all I accomplished was worth it.”
According to WJTV, Folsom and his mother were left homeless after fleeing their house from Melva’s ex-husband, who was later found guilty of murder and given a 40-year jail sentence.
They experience homelessness on multiple occasions, including while he was in ninth and eleventh grade. Melva remembered frantically looking for a place to reside with her son during that period.

“Martin and I had nowhere to go while we were at the McDonald’s downtown. By God’s mercy, we were able to enter a shelter that day as I was on the phone phoning individuals and organizations, Melva recounted.
Martin Folsom became the best graduating student at his high school and was elected class president despite all the upheavals and difficulties. His contemporaries viewed him as a source of guidance and support.
He gives gratitude to his mother and other others in his life for making the sacrifices of time, money, and effort to assist him achieve academic success. Regarding her son’s upbringing, Melva remarked, “I just kept pushing him to be better, and not necessarily to be No. 1, but to be better.”
“I never told myself that I was done with this or that I couldn’t do this any longer. “I’ve had to keep myself up and keep going forward because it happened again,” Martin Folsom revealed.
Folsom has enrolled in Valdosta State University in Georgia, USA, to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance. He intends to join the FBI after graduating.
