A young Nigerian man lands in Alberta after winning a scholarship to study mechanical engineering at three US and Canadian colleges.
Goodluck Obi Agu, a young and talented Nigerian, has been awarded scholarships to three universities in the United States—the University of Alberta, the University of Alabama, and the University of Rochester—to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees.
At the Federal University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, South-West Nigeria, Goodluck Agu began his academic career and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He sought for multiple study abroad scholarships after completing his undergraduate degree, and he was granted fully funded scholarships to attend institutions in the US and Canada.
He posted on LinkedIn, “I also received a couple of other exciting offers this past application cycle, most notably: the University of Alabama, where I received a direct PhD-ship, and the University of Rochester, where I was chosen as the recipient of the Robert Chen fellowship.”

However, he clarified that he had chosen to accept the offer from the University of Alberta, Canada, and had already started his Mechanical Engineering Master’s program there.
“I am excited to announce that I have begun my master’s program at the University of Alberta on a full scholarship in Mechanical Engineering–Engineering Management,” Obi Agu said.
He went on to say that he would be concentrating on Energy Systems Research and that the University of Alberta, which takes pride in being ranked in the top five Canadian universities for Energy Systems Engineering and in the top ten worldwide for Energy Systems research, would be in a good position to conduct ideal research.
He expressed gratitude to everyone who helped him along the way, from Nigeria to Canada. He declared, “I welcome this new phase with open arms and am excited about what the future holds.”
