AFRICA | At the age of 14, a young Nigerian guy fulfills a promise he made to his parents by earning a PhD at a US university.

Oroghene Oboreh-Snapps, a young Nigerian scholar with a strong work ethic, has accomplished a noteworthy feat by graduating from Missouri University of Science and Technology in the United States with a PhD in Electrical Engineering.

This achievement satisfies a pledge he made to his parents when he was fourteen years old. Oroghene celebrated his accomplishment on LinkedIn and shared his thoughts on his 15-year journey of tenacity and commitment.

“I dedicated 15 years of my life to this trip, driven by a desire to succeed and a pledge to my parents that I would complete my PhD in Electrical Engineering before my 30th birthday. That wish came true for me on December 13th,” he said.

With a focus on microgrid and artificial intelligence technologies, Oroghene’s research focuses on AI applications for power system control and stability.

According to him, the accomplishment is more than just a title; it is evidence of tenacity, selflessness, and everlasting faith. He thanked his adviser, lab partners, friends, and family for their support.

Oroghene obtained a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Madonna University in Abuja, where he started his further education. Later, he attended Missouri University of Science and Technology to obtain his master’s degree in the same discipline.

He built on this basis by concentrating on cutting-edge research on microgrid systems and artificial intelligence for his PhD.

A combination of Oroghene’s faith, fortitude, and the support of his loved ones propelled him on his path. He now anticipates making important contributions to the domains of power systems and artificial intelligence.
