A Nigerian woman transfers to engineering after three years of battling in medical school, graduating with a 4.90/5.00 first-class grade.
AFRICA | After transferring from medicine to engineering at the University of Debrecen, Hungary, Amarachi Osuji, a remarkable Nigerian woman from Imo State, has accomplished extraordinary achievement.
Amarachi, who had a difficult time in medical school, decided to change to chemical engineering and did quite well. She received an exceptional 4.90/5.00 first-class CGPA upon graduating as an engineer.
Amarachi claims that after three years of academic hardship, she decided that studying medicine was not the appropriate course for her. He had originally enrolled in the university with the goal of becoming a doctor.
The path to this point wasn’t easy or straightforward. Amarachi posted on Linkedin, “I went from being miserable for three years in medical school to thriving in engineering school and finally graduating with a 4.9 CGPA.”
In 2016, Amarachi made the transformative decision to pursue a career in Chemical Engineering, which she refers to as “the best decision I ever made.”

Amarachi not only adjusted but also flourished with exceptional grades, graduating with distinction in 2020 despite beginning a completely new area.
She acknowledged her parents’ sacrifices and steadfast support, and she conveyed her sincere gratitude to them for believing in and supporting her decision to change occupations.
Amarachi’s academic career continued after that. She continued on to Tufts University in Massachusetts, USA, after receiving her bachelor’s degree, where she graduated in 2023 with a master’s degree.
She is currently working as a Graduate Assistant while pursuing a PhD in Biotechnology at the same university.

She earned a first-class degree in civil engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) thanks to her perseverance and diligence.
