A 14-year-old girl is accepted to the University of Malawi and will graduate at the age of 19 as a doctor.
Taida Mapara, a remarkable 14-year-old girl from Zimbabwe, was accepted to the University of Malawi College of Medicine, setting a remarkable record as one of the youngest African students ever accepted to a university.
Taida Mapara made exceptional academic progress, finishing the 13-year primary and high school curriculum in just 8 years. She progressed to higher education and aced the June 2020 A’ Level Cambridge examinations with 3 As in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at Hilbright Science College in Zimbabwe.
Taida Mapara had ever since she was small dreamed of being a medical doctor and following her great academic record, she was accepted to the University of Malawi to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
Speaking about her experience, Taida Mapara stated that after hearing many others describe the course as challenging, she became even more motivated to pursue a career in medicine.

“Everyone claims that medicine is really difficult, but that only increased my desire to learn more about it. She asked, “Why can’t I get through it if there are people out there who did?”
She stated that she will seek a profession in cardiology because she enjoyed studying the human heart in high school.
I’m still fascinated by the heart, and my curiosity just increases as I learn more about it. Because I would want to work in a field that focuses on the heart, I decided on cardiology. I think it would make being a doctor even more fascinating and amazing,” she said.
