At Europe University, a young Nigerian breaks the record by being the first to earn a pharmacy degree with a 4.86 GPA.
A young Nigerian man named Okoro Benjamin has set an outstanding record as the first Nigerian to bag Pharmacy degree with a 4.65 cumulative grade point at Voronezh State University in Russia.
Okoro Benjamin is an Anambra native in Nigeria who moved to Russia after high school. He graduated from Federal Government College in Anambra as a top student scoring 8As distinction out of the 9 subjects he sat for in his senior secondary school certificate exam.
After high school, Benjamin tried to get admission into the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers state in Nigeria, but he was not admitted because he did not meet the university’s cut-off mark.
After taking and passing the Nigeria Federal Scholarship Board Exam, Benjamin was accepted to Voronezh State University in Russia to study pharmacy.
Benjamin stated that he is happy to have attended one of Russia’s top universities, Voronezh State University, to study pharmacy. He said that most Nigerians who took the Federal Scholarship Board Exam were sent to study in Kazan, Moscow, or other places, but he was sent to Russia for the first time in a long time.
He also mentioned that he was one of the brightest students in his faculty from his very first year, therefore he expected to accomplish this achievement. He said that during his first year, he received praise from one of his lecturers for being the first student to receive a grade in one of his courses in the ten years since the faculty’s founding.
After I passed my Botanical test in my first year, the lecturer informed me that I was the first person to receive such a score in ten years. I realized then that something significant was about to happen,” he remarked.

Benjamin claimed that the pharmaceutical faculty is rigorous and that he studied all of the courses under Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, and Pharmaceutical Economics in Russian. He expressed his happiness that his efforts and perseverance paid off, as they led to a significant accomplishment.
This is a fantastic accomplishment, and I’m thrilled about it because it took a lot of effort, many sleepless nights, and many triumphs over obstacles. While learning a new language, I was able to accomplish this,” he remarked.
Benjamin is not only a standout student at the institution but also the president of the Association of Nigerian Scholarship Students in the Russian Federation, which has more than 500 active members.
After graduation, Benjamin said he will seek to reform the drug and healthcare systems as a way to give back to his nation.
All I want to do is return the favor to my native nation, which has supported me for so long. If given the chance, I would like to enhance our healthcare systems. I have done a great deal of research on medications that I think will be crucial to our system. “I want to do this again in Nigeria and throughout Africa,” he stated.
