A young Nigerian man demonstrates his genius by earning a PhD scholarship to the US with a 2.2 bachelor’s degree.
Abdullahi Aborode, a young and driven Nigerian, has demonstrated that obtaining a first- or second-class upper-level degree is not a prerequisite for receiving scholarships overseas.
The youthful Abdullahi has demonstrated that he is just as intelligent as graduates with first-class degrees by winning not one but two PhD scholarships to the United States despite having a second-class lower (2.2) degree and no master’s degree.
Abdullahi earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Nigeria. He has had a strong desire to pursue graduate studies abroad ever since graduating.
He claimed that his ambition was driven by his intense love of science and research. But because of the fierce rivalry, the trip was challenging. For four years, however, he continued to apply to graduate programs.
He went on to say that even though most of his applications were turned down, he vowed to keep improving, honing his leadership, research writing, laboratory abilities and procedures, volunteering, and earning certifications like the GRE, Duolingo, and TOEFL.
In order to expand his network and knowledge, he also went to conferences.

Abdullahi made the decision to start his PhD studies at Mississippi State University’s Department of Chemistry after weighing the scholarship offers he had received.
In order to better understand how the intracellular calcium-sensing protein “Calmodulin” senses changes in calcium concentration and alters protein-protein interactions—two crucial processes for creating treatments for heart diseases—he outlined his research as focusing on the intersection of science and medicine by combining structural biology, biophysics, and electrophysiology.
Abdullahi thanked God, his family, and his friends for helping him get through tough times. He also expressed gratitude to his recommenders for their persistent faith in him and to his mentors for their advice.
