A Nigerian woman who took out a loan to cover her tuition fees receives four scholarships and earns a first-class bachelor’s degree.
AFRICA | After a remarkable journey of tenacity and resolve, a bright Nigerian woman named Adeyinka Adefowora has overcome all odds to earn a First-Class bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences from the University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria.
Being the first member of her family to enroll in college, she encountered significant financial difficulties after being accepted to UI. She took out a loan to cover her first year’s tuition since she was determined to continue her studies.
Adeyinka committed herself to her academics and finished her first year with a First-Class CGPA in spite of the financial difficulties. She received four undergraduate scholarships and fellowships for her exceptional academic achievement, which allowed her to finish her studies with full funding.

She acknowledged that there were ups and downs in her effort to retain her academic success.
“Even though I started with a first-class CGPA, I was afraid that I wouldn’t graduate with a first-class because my CGPA dropped to the 200 level, but guess what? I made it,” she added.
During her tenure at the university, Adeyinka assumed a number of leadership positions in addition to her academic responsibilities. She served in her departmental association, her residence hall, and her campus fellowship, where she developed important leadership and professional abilities.
Adeyinka attributes her final-year research work’s publication to her supervisor’s consistent support and encouragement, which further demonstrates her commitment to personal development.
She thanked everyone who helped her along the way, particularly Tomayo Berida for receiving the BoluTomi Foundation Scholarship and Dr. Babatunde Ipaye for giving her the Ajoke Ipaye Foundation Scholarship.
Adeyinka is hopeful about the future and wants to have a significant influence in her field of study.
