A collaborative effort between the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and Chatham House, the Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship provides early-to-mid-career individuals with the chance to spend ten months at Chatham House in the United Kingdom.
A stipend of £23,650 will be given to chosen fellows to cover living expenses in London, such as housing, utilities, food, transportation, and other essentials.

Details of the Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship
The Mo Ibrahim charity (MIF) is an African charity that was founded in 2006 with the sole goal of highlighting how crucial leadership and governance are in Africa.

We think that the foundation of any real, collective change in the standard of living for Africans is leadership and governance.
In addition to participating in the Institute’s core activities, fellows expand their professional networks in the field of international affairs and hone their leadership abilities.
Conditions for the Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship
You must fulfill the following criteria in order to be eligible for the fellowship:
- Citizens of any African nation are eligible to apply for the fellowship.
- Applicants with dual nationality, including those from any African countries, may also submit an application.
- Candidates must have research experience and a finished bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
- A candidate in the early to mid-stages of their career who works in academia, a non-governmental organization, business, government agencies, civil society, or the media is excellent.
- All candidates should be interested in and knowledgeable about international affairs, their field of study, and the goals and activities of Chatham House.It is not feasible to pursue a fellowship while working or studying because fellows are expected to work full-time toward their fellowship.
Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship 2025 Benefits
The £2,365 monthly stipend that the fellow will receive will cover all of the costs of living in London, including housing, utilities, food, transportation, and other essentials.

The Academy pays for reasonable relocation expenses, such as airfare, train, other modes of transportation to and from the UK, three nights of lodging, visas, additional cases or boxes, etc.; the UK Immigration Healthcare Surcharge, which grants access to the UK National Health Service (note that you might have to pay for medically prescribed medications and dental and optical care); and research, outreach, and dissemination expenses, such as fieldwork, travel, conferences, journals, roundtables, events, etc.
Alumni who successfully complete their fellowship are eligible for five years of Chatham House membership as well as access to The Academy’s faculty and alumni.
