An African homeless man who used to sell coconuts receives an ambassadorial award and a scholarship to Canada.
A homeless African man named Peter Bawuah has overcomes his challenges. He won a scholarship to study in the University of Windsor, in Canada and was elected as the student ambassador for International student in the university.
Peter Bawua comes from Techimantia community in Ghana. He bagged his bachelor’s degree in Political science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
On his LinkedIn page, Peter recounted his success story, stating that he was born into a less affluent family and had to overcome many obstacles while growing up with few opportunities and comforts.
“I was born and raised in a less privileged home with limited opportunities and education. I remember when I used to sell cassava and plantain to pay for my PTA and examination fee. I have always opined that the pillar of everyone’s destiny is found in their mindset”, he wrote.
After high school, Peter relocated to Accra to further his education. not having any source of income, he had to squat with 11 other people to sleep in a kiosk in Fifi Cantonments-Accra .
Peter said he sold coconut and engaged in some minor jobs to be able to gather his school fees when he got admitted into Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
“Fiifi (Cantomments-Accra), one of my pals, offered me a room at a kiosk in Kumoji. The space was small, with perhaps 11 of us in the kiosks,” Peter remarked.
“I slept on this bench for several months, and during that time, I learned a lot and was much inspired by it. It humbled me. I was being prepared by God. Without effort, nothing significant occurs. “Enjoy your mental transformation season,” he continued.

Peter received a scholarship to study in the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada, after graduating from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Peter graduated from the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada, with a master’s degree in political science and government. Peter participated actively in school and was chosen to serve as the university’s graduate student representative.
He said that the white-dominated class elected him because he was the only African student among the four who ran.
I actually ran for Graduate Student Representative; out of the four of us, I was the only African. However, I was elected by these white people. There aren’t many Africans in this position. I used to sleep outside when I had no hope. But my story has been altered by God,” he remarked.
Through his foundation, the “PeterHills foundation,” Peter has now earned a name for himself in Canada and inspired young people worldwide with his narrative.
The Brilliant Minds Group, an organization that supports and cares for the welfare of international students in Canada, just appointed him as their student ambassador.
Peter claimed he was chosen to represent African students in the organization after the group found him on LinkedIn. At the moment, Peter works for the Corporation of the City of Windsor as a program staff member.
