After winning a UK Chevening scholarship and defeating 1,979 other applications, an exceptional lady is able to study for free in the UK.
Wendy Atswei Laryea, a remarkable Ghanaian woman, was one of the 21 Ghanaian winners chosen to receive the coveted Chevening fellowship, defeating 1,979 other applicants.
TV3 host and broadcast journalist Wendy Atswei Laryea was awarded a Chevening scholarship to attend Cranfield University in the United Kingdom to pursue a Master’s degree in Management/Corporate Sustainability.
When she applied for the Chevening Scholarship for the first time in 2020, she was unsuccessful and only received a reserve seat.
She shared her tale on her LinkedIn page, saying that she was inspired and encouraged to try again in 2021 by several of her coworkers who are Chevening scholars.
She recalled that her “Tribe,” which included Gabriel Obodai Torgbor-Ashong, a 2018 Chevening Scholar, and John Elliot Hagan, a 2020 Chevening Scholar, thought I was a “winnable” candidate and urged me to try again.

Every year, the UK government sponsors the Chevening Scholarship, a fully funded program that enables international students to live and study in the country for free. Every year around July, the scholarship opportunity begins, and it closes around November.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been chosen for the 2021–2022 Chevening Awards. Out of more than 2,000 Ghanaian candidates, I was chosen as one of the top 1 percent (21 picks). “This is grace in abundance,” she remarked.
She thanked the Almighty God, her friends and family, and everyone else who helped make her a success.
