A young African woman becomes the first Black woman to receive a PhD in nuclear physics, setting a record at a US university.

At the University of Connecticut in the United States, a young woman called Fridah Mokaya became the first Black woman to receive a doctorate in nuclear physics.

At the University of Connecticut in the United States, Fridah, a native of Nairobi, became the first Black woman and the first Black individual to receive a doctorate in nuclear physics.

She claimed that in order to give her and her siblings a quality education, her parents went above and above.When it came to choose her examinable subjects in high school, Fridah told African Warrior Magazine that she missed the cut-off mark for Physics by just 2%. However, her father stepped in to assist guide her toward her destiny.

My dad told the teacher that I was his daughter, that he knew what I was capable of, and that he had no doubts that I would succeed in physics. That is one thing I will never forget about all of this. “This was the pivotal moment,” Fridah remarked.

Let’s just say that my efforts were fruitful. On my KCSE exam, I received a “A” in Physics. In retrospect, I realize that I might not be where I am now if it weren’t for my parents’ and teacher’s strong conviction in me,” she continued.

Fridah claimed that receiving a poor mark as she prepared to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya was another setback she had while attending the university.

“I completed my four years on college with excellent grades, and when the graduation list was released a few days before I was set to graduate, I was surprised to see that my name was on the lower division list for second class honors. Never in my life had I been so upset. “All the hard work I had done,” she remarked.

She was allowed to attend Binghamton University (SUNY) in the United States to pursue a master’s degree in Physics despite graduating with poor grades. She subsequently went on to the University of Connecticut to pursue her doctorate in nuclear physics.

Experimental Nuclear and Hadronic Physics was the main area of study for Fridah’s doctoral dissertation. She claimed that in addition to being the only female black Ph.D. student in her department studying physics, she also had to balance being a new mother.

To put it simply, we research fundamental interactions in the nucleus by using it as a “laboratory.” What makes all of this significant, then? The reason for this, she explained, is that it helps us comprehend the basic components of nature.

Fridah expressed her hope that her accomplishment would encourage women to seek professions in STEM fields. She stated that she wants everyone to know that they can do anything in life and that obstacles should encourage them to keep going.
