The Nordic Africa Institute NAI Scholarship Program 2026 Details:

The program aims to build capacity in the production of knowledge about Africa and to promote and establish relations with and between African and Nordic research communities. The scholarship provides access to the Institute’s library and other resources that provide for an engaging research environment.

2026 requirements Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship

The Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship is available to:

  • Full-time employees of African universities or research centers pursuing PhD degrees in Africa who are not eligible for an overseas scholarship
  • Postdoctoral researchers (those who completed their PhDs within five years or less).
  • Every African
  • Candidates must be connected to research institutes or universities in Iceland, Denmark, Finland, or Sweden.

 

 The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Scholarship Program offers the following benefits:

The scholarship covers return airfare (economy class), lodging, a subsistence allowance of 400 SEK (about 40 USD) per day in addition to an installation grant of 2,500 SEK (about 250 USD), and access to a desk computer and workspace in the Institute’s shared office.

  • The Institute’s library focuses on the social sciences and specializes in books about modern Africa. Additionally, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Library and the Uppsala University Library are accessible to guest researchers.
  • In addition to visiting other Nordic institutions, guest researchers can present their work at the Nordic Africa Institute.

 

Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Scholarship Program Requirements:

  • A current resume with a list of publications (please include links if available online)
  • Five-page study project outline:

o A comprehensive study proposal • One-page work plan:

o The plan should outline the goals of the research and the anticipated outcomes for the time spent at the Institute.

  • Citation: A signed letter of support from the applicant’s Head of Department or other senior scholar in the same field, which confirms current work place/affiliation and field of research
