Details of the University of Nevada Scholarship:
To investigate the effects of space utilization and trace mineral elements on elk survival in Nevada, the University of Nevada Reno’s Nevada Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit is looking for a graduate research assistant (MS student) in wildlife ecology.
The goal of the study is to identify possible reasons for the mysterious springtime elk mortality in northern Nevada, which could be a factor in population decreases.
In order to determine whether trace mineral deficiencies, novel illnesses, space utilization, and/or landscape-scale factors are the primary causes of spring mortality, the student will work with professionals from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).
Among other responsibilities, the student will be expected to attend classes, help with fieldwork, write an MS thesis, contribute to annual reports, publish at least one peer-reviewed journal article, present to cooperators and at conferences, and actively engage in various academic communities at UNR.
