AFRICA | A talented Nigerian man receives the Best Student Award after graduating with a 4.80 first-class electrical engineering degree.
With an exceptional first-class CGPA of 4.80/5.00, Arthur Enwelum, a bright Nigerian, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Arthur received the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering’s Overall Best Graduating Student Award for his outstanding academic achievement.
She considered the difficulties and successes of his academic career. Although he was a member of the class of 2022, his cohort was officially graduated in 2025 after a two-year delay, finishing final exams in 2024.

Arthur acknowledged that his journey was filled with challenges that shaped his growth and resilience. He expressed gratitude to God and credited the support of his family, friends, and mentors for his success.
He expressed great thankfulness to God for seeing him through and to the amazing people who supported and encouraged him along the journey.
Arthur’s college years were distinguished by various amazing achievements, including continuing the university, obtaining a flawless 16/16 points (Top 1%).
Along with winning the ECPM Prize for Best Academic Performance in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the 200-level and three undergraduate scholarship awards, Arthur also received recognition from CASOR UNILAG on several occasions for achieving semester GPAs above 4.50/5.00.

He also gained real-world experience by working as an intern at two multinational companies: Chevron Nigeria Limited and TotalEnergies.
For his senior project, Arthur designed and built an electronic navigation system for a blind student, demonstrating his inventiveness and dedication to impactful engineering.
In addition, he was an active member of a number of organizations and initiatives, such as the IEEE Student Branch (Page) at the University of Lagos, where he served as the Assistant Robotics Team Lead and organized and led free tutorials for his fellow students to aid in their academic development.
During his graduation, Arthur was bestowed with notable honors, such as the Dean’s Prize, the Engr. Oludare Ogunlade Academic Prize for Overall Best Graduating Student in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Best Student in Modern Communication Systems.
Arthur credited his success to God’s grace, his instructors, his family, and friends, and he also thanked the communities and organizations that helped him, such as the Engineering Students Christian Association (ESCA), CASOR UNILAG, and his pastor.
Arthur offered insightful advice to undergraduates in Electrical Engineering. “Don’t do it alone; pray for guidance to the right people. Don’t focus solely on grades; strive to understand the importance and real-world applications of what you’re learning,” he said.
”Good grades open doors, but deep understanding with good character sustains opportunities. Above all, seek to honor God with your academics,” Arthur added.
