“I was very excited. Actually, I wanted to cry, in my heart I was like ‘God this is all because of you?’.
I was very emotional and happy at the same time,” she said. Maziya mentioned that medical school was challenging as she had to survive independently because her parents were jobless. She stated that the love of science, lifelong learning, serving her community, and breaking the poverty cycle in her family inspired her to pursue medicine as a career.
I am a someone who values science and is constantly learning new things. Knowing that medicine is a dynamic field with scientific roots inspired me to take on the responsibility of enhancing people’s health. She stated, “I wanted to end the cycle of poverty at home.”
Maziya attributes her accomplishment to her family and friends’ unwavering support. She also mentioned how comedy evenings and frequent church attendance helped her manage her mental health while she was under academic strain.
I would frequently attend church since it provided me with comfort. I would occasionally watch comedies, go on walks, and discuss my stress with my closest friend and family, Maziya said.
Pressure was constant. Sometimes I thought the degree was too much and I should just give up, but then I would consider the circumstances at home and the possibility that I would be ridiculed and called a dropout. I was forced to keep going,” she continued.
Maziya claimed that she completed her degree by consistently studying and experimenting with different study techniques. She stated that in order to have a deeper comprehension of the course, she would seek out outside information.
By arranging my study materials, determining a good learning style, and asking for assistance when necessary, I was able to set priorities. In order to better understand particular chapters, I would go above and above in my efforts to obtain information. I would occasionally join study groups and watch YouTube videos,” she added.
