A 19-year-old boy receives a scholarship to a UK university after raising £5,000 for charitable causes.
Connor Andrew, 19, has been awarded a $7600 scholarship to attend Middlesex University in the United Kingdom to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
Connor, a teenager from East Ham who previously attended Barking and Dagenham College, received a 600-pound Middlesex University Community Scholarship in recognition of his community service.
Undergraduate students who have excelled as role models in their school, college, or community, or who have overcome obstacles in their personal lives, are recognized with the Middlesex Community scholarship.
Along with helping to restore the Dagenham Parish Church Garden, Connor was a member of a student team that raised over 5,000 pounds for the Poppy Appeal.

As part of a Peace Not War event at Rush Green College, Connor also facilitated a debate in which students from primary schools throughout the borough engaged in discussion on current events. During his time in college, he worked to ensure that everyone could pursue an education regardless of their circumstances or background.
“Organizing these events was both incredibly enjoyable and difficult at the same time. “I never really considered myself to be able to represent the college to the entire Barking and Dagenham borough,” Connor remarked.
However, he continued, “with the help of my tutors and class, we were able to pull off the events spectacularly.” Steve Burger, Connor’s former tutor, commended the young student, saying that his hard work and dedication have earned him the award.
“The team is not surprised that Connor received the scholarship. On behalf of the college, let me congratulate him and wish him well in the future,” Steve remarked. He received his prize at the annual scholarship ceremony held by the university located in Hendon.
“I feel honored to have been selected for the community scholarship; I didn’t think I would be eligible when I applied, but you wouldn’t believe how loudly I screamed when they emailed me to say, ‘you got it,'” he added.
