Adeyemi Shukurat, a Nigerian woman, received a 4.53 first-class English degree and was named the top graduating student.
A talented Nigerian woman named Shukurat Adeyemi has accomplished remarkable accomplishment after surpassing her peers to become the top English language graduate at Lagos State University in Nigeria.
After earning 4.53/5.00 total grade points, she was also named her department’s best-graduating student. Shukurat became the second person in history to graduate with first-class honors from the English department at Lagos State University.
Despite understanding that receiving a first-class degree is uncommon in the department, Shukurat accepted the challenge and stated in an interview with Tribune that she had set this objective since her first year of study.
She claimed that she skipped a test in one of her semesters and at one point did not anticipate finishing with the grade, but she persisted with a strong will and succeeded in reaching her objective.
“I never gave up.” With dedication, hard effort, determination, and consistency, I was able to succeed. I had to carry over the course since I missed a test, which made it difficult. It was not impossible, though. I put a lot of effort and diligence into getting it,” she remarked.
I was nervous, afraid, and worried during my 400 level days. I was concerned that my CGPA might be close to a first-class grade. I felt so depressed. When I finally received my final grade—a first-class grade—I started crying since I had assumed I wouldn’t make it,” she continued.

Shukurat engaged in a number of extracurricular activities throughout her time at the institution. She won every tournament in which she competed on behalf of the institution, including the Students of English in Southwest, Southwest Nigeria Debate tournament, and the NANS Inter-tertiary Debate Competition.
She also received the Academic Star of the Year award in the English Department, the Most Diligent and Bookworm of the Year award, and the most prestigious LASUITE award in 2021.
According to Shukurat, she took part in the City International Model UN as well. Representatives from all across the world attended this United Nations meeting, which won the title of Most Outstanding Female Delegate.
She claimed that her parents’ early attitudes toward education influenced how she approached her studies and that they instilled in her and her brothers a commitment to academic success and devotion.
When I was very young, and even in high school, my father would instruct my brothers and I to go read our books after noticing that we had been watching TV for more than two hours. At one point, he even forced me to read. Later on, though, I came to adore it and was grateful that they had forced me. It has helped shape who I am now,” she remarked.
Shukurat advised incoming students to give all they do, especially their education, their all.
“It is worthwhile to do what is worthwhile.” Please do well if you have to attend the university. In order to be able to look back and proudly declare the accomplishments of those years, she suggested taking it seriously and giving it your all in the end.
Shukurat stated that she intends to contribute to Nigeria’s educational system in order to give back to society. She went on to say that she hopes to establish a scholarship program to honor academic achievement at LASU and other colleges.
