A young adolescent boy will be the first person in his family to graduate after winning a $40,000 Amazon scholarship.
An Amazon Company engineering scholarship worth forty thousand dollars has been awarded to a young kid named Angel Feliz, who will be able to study computer engineering at any American university of his choosing.
Feliz received the Amazon Engineering Scholarship after relocating to Providence, USA, from the Dominican Republic when he was nine years old. The top online retailer in the world, Amazon, gave scholarships to 100 deserving computer science students who want to advance their education and future jobs.
After completing their first year of college, they will receive paid internships at the company and a scholarship worth forty thousand dollars to study computer science at any university of their choosing.
Since he is a first-generation immigrant and would be the first member of his family to go and complete college thanks to the scholarship, he said that when he contacted his mother to inform her that he had won, it made them both cry.
“I’m an immigrant of the first generation. With the help of this scholarship, I will soon be a first-generation college student as well, allowing me and my family to continue exploring career options in technology without having to worry about money,” Feliz stated.
Additionally, it gives me motivation. Knowing that I have people at my side is crucial to me,” he continued.
Feliz said he plans to attend college in the northeast to study for his bachelor’s degree, adding that he will major in computer science with a minor in cybersecurity. Feliz said he loves the collaboration that his computer science work has offered thus far, which goes against the perception of independent, siloed work environments that many have of the field.
