A bright Nigerian woman receives a first-class degree in pharmacology 15 years after the trauma of her father’s death.

At Olabisi Onabanjo University in Nigeria, a bright Nigerian woman named Asisat Adegoke earned a first-class degree in pharmacology fifteen years after experiencing shock over the death of her father.

Asisat graduated from Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun, Nigeria, with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology. With a cumulative grade point total of 4.90 out of a possible 5.00, she received first-class honors upon graduation.

Her exceptional achievement earned her the title of university’s overall best graduating student for the 2022–2023 academic year. In an interview, Asisat stated that she encountered various difficulties in school, which made her achievement difficult to achieve.

Asisat said that after losing her mother fifteen years ago, she was raised by a single mother. Since her mother was paying for her and her brothers’ education, she claimed that her biggest obstacle as a student was money.

Since this was a tremendous accomplishment that had never occurred in the community, I was moved. Seeing the entire community celebrate my accomplishment made me joyful. I’ve always been a diligent learner. I really gave academics my all,” she remarked.

“I never anticipated it because I always feel that someone is better than me, regardless of the grade I receive. I was thrilled, but I must admit that my family was ecstatic when the news of my achievement was shared. They all knew it was well-earned because they understood how much I loved learning,” she continued.

Asisat claimed that rather than deterring her, the challenges strengthened her resolve and provided her more drive. She said that as a working-class individual, her goal is to become self-sufficient and financially independent.

She went on to say that she intends to earn her PhD before turning thirty. Asisat advised other students not to lose up on their aspirations, sharing how her trust in God enabled her to excel academically.

“Students should make an effort to pray and put their academics in God’s hands so that they will have the faith to accept any poor grades that may come their way and not feel burdened or inferior.” Since it is unavoidable, they will view it as an excuse to work more and read more,” she said.

According to Asisat, self-belief is essential. and they should make sure to maintain friends who inspire them to do more and who will push them to succeed, adding that her network of friends had a role in her achievement.

“My junior ones should, above all, make sure that they give their academics their whole attention and commitment, attend classes, listen to lectures, study their lecturers, take note of what the lecturers emphasize, and stay away from distractions as much as possible,” she said.
