A resolute young African lady named Evelyn Asante-Yeboah has accomplished a remarkable feat by graduating from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in Germany with a doctorate in sustainable landscape development.
In her reflections on the difficulties she encountered and the lessons she discovered, Evelyn shared her journey on LinkedIn, highlighting faith, tenacity, and endurance as the key components of her accomplishment.
As a single mother in East Germany, a strange nation with little resources, Evelyn pursued her PhD. She overcame several challenges along the way, remaining optimistic and resolute in the face of scant support.
Financial hardships were one of her major obstacles. Halfway through her degree, Evelyn’s scholarship abruptly stopped, so she found work at a research institute to help pay for her education.
She accomplished this while juggling her rigorous school schedule and motherhood. Another significant obstacle was the rigorous academic requirements.
Because of the intricacies of life and the lengthy wait times for publication acceptances, Evelyn had to publish three complete works in highly regarded journals in order to receive her PhD.
She conducted a great deal of fieldwork in Africa for her study, “Towards multifunctional and sustainable land use in mosaic landscapes: an integrated socio-spatial assessment of land use and land cover transitions in a mosaic landscape of southwestern Ghana.”
She had to come up with inventive ways to finish her research, though, because the COVID-19 epidemic and lockdowns interrupted her data collecting.
Evelyn faced these obstacles head-on from October 2019 to December 2024, exhibiting tenacity and resolve to accomplish her objective. She believes that women, especially moms, would find a strong message in her narrative.
“Being a mother shouldn’t stop you from pursuing your goals. Being a single mother does not make you less capable or valuable. Remain focused, have faith in God, and have faith in yourself. “Surround yourself with positive, forward-thinking people and ask for help when you need it,” she said.
She acknowledged that God’s assistance was indisputable in her achievement and conveyed her sincere gratitude to everyone who helped her along the way.
By reminding people that no dream is too large to accomplish, Evelyn hopes her tale will encourage others—especially women—to embrace faith and resiliency.
