AFRICA | A trio of 23-year-old Nigerians make history by graduating from the same UK university on the same day.
On the same day, the 23-year-old Nigerian quadruplets Toks, Temi, Tobi, and Tolu Ogunsanya received their master’s degrees from Warwick University in the United Kingdom (UK), marking a noteworthy accomplishment.
Born in Nigeria, the siblings—two sets of identical twins—moved to the UK with their parents when they were seven years old.
Known affectionately as “the quads,” they started their schooling at Warwick University and graduated with first-class undergraduate degrees: Tolu in mechanical engineering, Tobi in economics, and Toks and Temi in chemical engineering.
They pursued their studies at the same university, specializing in different master’s programs: Tolu in engineering business management, Tobi in finance and economics, and Toks and Temi in biomedical engineering.
They held a joint graduation ceremony on January 22, 2012, after completing their programs in December 2011. The siblings credit their close-knit sibling ties and their parents’ encouragement for their accomplishment.
“We thank God for this accomplishment and are really pleased of ourselves.
Although it was challenging, we supported and encouraged one another during the process. Additionally, we had outstanding instructors and fellow students who contributed to the enjoyment of our education,” Temi stated.
We are thrilled to spend this unique time with our parents, who have given so much for us. They never gave up on us and constantly encouraged us to try our hardest. We want to make them proud in all we do because they are our role models,” Toks continued.
In addition to their scholastic achievements, the quads are skilled musicians who play drums, saxophone, guitar, and piano. Through a YouTube channel that features both original compositions and covers, they share their love of music.
They have also given back to their campus community through charitable events, athletics, student organizations, and mentorship initiatives.
The Ogunsanyas are thought to be the first Nigerian quadruplets to graduate together at this academic level, making them one of the few quadruplets in the world to do so. They intend to apply their knowledge to advance society by pursuing professional certifications or doctorates.
We don’t take this chance for granted, and we are incredibly thankful for it. We are aware that it is our duty to improve society and use our gifts for the greater good. We want our tale to inspire people to pursue their passions and put in the necessary effort to reach their objectives,” Tobi stated.
“We are really looking forward to what the future has in store for us. We think that everything is achievable with God’s assistance. We would want to express our gratitude to everyone who has encouraged and supported us. We’re grateful to everyone,” Tolu continued.
