Qualifications for the Central South University Scholarship

The candidate must meet each of the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for the Central South University Scholarship:

Language Requirement: Students applying to programs taught in Chinese must receive at least 220 points in HSK4 for science and engineering programs and 260 points for arts, social science, and medical degrees (a minimum of 200 points in HSK5 is required for a bachelor’s degree in Chinese language and literature); Before starting their programs, students who are unable to achieve the Chinese proficiency criterion must complete a year-long preparatory course in the language and meet the HSK standard. When applying to programs taught in English, students need achieve at least 6 on the IELTS or 85 on the TOFEL.
Individuals who fulfill one of the subsequent criteria are not required to demonstrate their proficiency in the language:
a) Applicants who speak English or Chinese as their first language or as the nation’s official language.
b) Candidates who have completed a degree program where English or Chinese is the primary language of instruction.
• All nations in the world are eligible.
• Outstanding non-Chinese nationals who are in good health and have no criminal histories.

Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 25 and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent for a bachelor’s degree; they must be between the ages of 18 and 35 for a master’s degree or its equivalent; and they must be between the ages of 18 and 40 for a doctorial degree. Candidates under the age of eighteen must be at least sixteen years old and have a Chinese-based eligible guardian.Postgraduate program applicants must possess both creative research skills and a solid academic foundation.

 

How Can I Apply for a Scholarship at Central South University?

To apply for the Central South University Scholarship, please adhere to the guidelines below:
(1) Register on the university’s website and begin completing the application.
(2) Send the university the necessary application materials listed below:
• A copy of the passport (available for more than a year)
• The Physical Examination Record in PDF format. Candidates must be rigorously examined in compliance with the Foreigner Physical Examination Record requirement. A form that is not full is considered invalid. After December 1, 2023, the examination date will be set.

A photocopy of the highest degree or a certificate translated into Chinese or English and notarized. The pre-graduation certificate from the school is necessary if the candidate is enrolled in classes at the moment.
• A notarized transcript in Chinese or English, or a stamped transcript of the highest degree.
• A non-criminal record or a document translated into Chinese or English and officially stamped. It will be issued after December 1, 2023.
• IELTS/TOEFL results for English-taught programs, and HSK transcripts for Chinese-taught programs, or other records attesting to your language proficiency.
• Two distinct letters of recommendation from instructors or associate instructors with extensive networks. The date of signature must occur after December 1, 2023. (only for applicants who are graduates)

A study plan that is at least 800 words long. Please elaborate on the history, methodology, significance, and content of your research. (only for applicants who are graduates)
• Published essays or any additional supporting documents, such as a.doc-formatted acceptance letter (only for graduate applications)
(3) An initial assessment of the applicant’s identification, language proficiency, physical and mental health, etc., will be conducted by the School of International Education. Pay the RMB 500 application fee via the CSU unified payment platform in accordance with the email once the applicants have passed the first evaluation (UnionPay, Alipay, and WeChat are accessible);

In order to proceed with the application, please pay the application fee within two weeks. There’s no need to pay the application fee if you don’t pass the first review.

(4) Academic assessment: In order to thoroughly assess applicants’ academic backgrounds, capacity for scientific research, or capacity for creativity, relevant schools will do an academic assessment.
(5) Result Release: The final admission outcome will be sent out by admission email, contingent on the circumstances surrounding the application and review. (6) Annual evaluation: All scholarship recipients will undergo an annual evaluation that is based on their daily and academic performance from the previous academic year. Students who pass the review will still be eligible to receive the award. The scholarship will be suspended otherwise.

Note: 
(a) Either Chinese or English will be used for the aforementioned contents. Any other language materials should be notarized in English or Chinese.

(b) When applying to be admitted as a foreign student, an applicant who was born with a foreign nationality and whose parent or parents are Chinese citizens living abroad must have a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than four years, and they must have documented living abroad for more than two years during the previous four years (up to April 30 of the year of admission) (actual residence for nine months in a year can be calculated as one year). Entry and exit stamps serve as the basis for the computation. It is necessary to provide evidence of the renunciation of Chinese nationality.

(c) The majority of potential applicants will be enrolled based on the application materials, and the application costs and materials will not be reimbursed regardless of the admissions outcome. (d) The application review will be delayed in accordance with the January 26–February 27, 2024, winter break period. Initial reviews typically take place between two and four weeks, while academic reviews are scheduled by the appropriate school.
