Qualifications for the 2025 MEXT Scholarship
The candidate must meet each of the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for the MEXT Scholarship:
English is the required language, and all nations worldwide are eligible.
• Candidates need to be citizens of a countries with diplomatic ties to Japan.
• A candidate who was a citizen of Japan at the time of application is ineligible.
• For undergraduate students, you must be at least 17 years old, under 25, and have completed 12 years of study or courses at a high school-level institution (including those aspiring to graduate).
• Students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees must be under 35 and have completed college, including those who plan to do so. Or you need to have finished your 16 or 18 years of schooling.
Students pursuing teacher training must be under 35 and have completed college or a teacher training program. You must have taught in a primary, secondary, or teacher training institution in your nation for at least five years.
• Students studying in Japan must be between the ages of 18 and 30. When applicants arrive in Japan, they must be enrolled as undergraduates in faculties or schools that specialize in Japanese language or Japanese culture at a university outside of Japan. When they return home, they must be enrolled in their home institution.
