Exchange Program for ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2025
International students interested in conducting postdoctoral research in neuroscience and multiple sclerosis from all around the world are eligible to apply for the ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Exchange Program. Maximizing information sharing and assisting in the development of a pool of highly qualified research scientists with an emphasis on MS challenges are the program’s goals. Scholarship Reports
The recipient of the ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship will receive the following benefits:
• All fellows will receive an annual stipend of €55,000; additionally, ECTRIMS will cover the cost of round-trip economy transportation from the selected candidate’s home to the training site; family members’ travel expenses cannot be covered.
- The host institution, which will be the fellow’s employer, will receive payment from ECTRIMS. The host institution will pay the fellow stipends in accordance with its own payment schedules and rules. Upon submitting receipts to ECTRIMS, the fellow may get a direct reimbursement for travel expenditures related to relocation to the training site.
• The institution must use the ECTRIMS award to pay the fellow’s stipend, or “salary,” at the rate suitable for the fellow’s training level. The award’s remaining money, if any, may be utilized to provide institutional social benefits (health insurance, pension, and other benefits) that the institution may need. - The institution or mentor is responsible for supplementing the ECTRIMS award to meet all necessary expenses if the total stipend plus benefits exceeds the amount allocated under the ECTRIMS award.
• If the annual or prorated ECTRIMS award is insufficient to cover the fellow’s total required costs (salary plus benefits), additional funding sources that will be used to cover the total costs must be listed. - The host institution must indicate the expected fellow’s total salary as well as the expected fellow’s total social benefits costs per year.
• It is anticipated that the mentor or host institution will support the actual research that is to be conducted there.
During the fellowship period, fellows are expected to attend yearly ECTRIMS Congresses and present their supported research (either at a young researcher’s section or elsewhere). No extra funding will be given for travel, books, journal subscriptions, etc. Travel and lodging expenses for attending Congress will be covered individually by ECTRIMS.

Qualifications for the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at ECTRIMS
- Applicants must fulfill the following requirements in order to be considered for an ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship:
- • Languages Needed: In accordance with the host institution’s specifications.
- • All nations in the world are eligible.
- • Before the fellowship begins, candidates must have earned their advanced degree or degrees.
- • Fellows must have completed no more than a year of postdoctoral training at the same mentor or host institution at the time of application. Senior applicants may only apply with a maximum of five years of postdoctoral experience beyond their final degree (PhD, MD, ScD, or equivalent).
• Physicians and scientists with an MD, PhD, ScD, or an equivalent professional degree, or those pursuing one, are eligible.
• Successful applicants will typically be under 40 at the time of application; however, there may be exceptions in certain situations.
• Both mentors and candidates must attest that the training process won’t be hampered by any language issues.
• This program is open to citizens of any nation, but postdoctoral research training needs to be completed in a European lab or clinic.To the greatest extent feasible, the fellow should return to his or her original home institution for employment after the fellowship time, however this is not necessary. As part of the application process, post-fellowship career intentions should be described in full.
How Can I Apply for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at ECTRIMS?

(3) The following documents should be included with the fellowship application:
• A condensed version of the applicant’s curriculum vitae and bibliography, no more than five pages. The “biographical sketch” form that ECTRIMS provides must be used, and it may be found in the online fellowship application system.
• A completed online application (www.ectrims.eu), accessible through the ECTRIMS website.
- The applicant’s career goals, no more than one page.
• An abstract synopsis of a research endeavor that is no more than 250 words long.
• A description of the research project that includes figures, tables, and references and is no more than six pages long.
• The applicant’s documentation of proficiency in the native tongue, such as a certificate.
(4) By December 1st, the following extra materials must be electronically sent to fellowship@ectrims.eu. The materials required in the Second Step should not be supplied with these; instead, they should be submitted as secret papers. 1) If a fellowship is granted, a letter of support from the department chair (or another appropriate institutional representative) at the intended host institution approving the proposed fellow.
2) The training institution’s certification that it accepts the ECTRIMS fellowship’s terms and payments. The required form can be obtained through the online application system; the candidate should send it to the organization for filling out and then send it back to ECTRIMS. - From the suggested mentor: A letter endorsing the suggested mentor, specifically mentioning the mentor’s interactions with the fellow and the proposed research plan. The suggested mentor’s current curriculum vitae and bibliography should be condensed to no more than five pages. It is recommended that the “biographical sketch” form found in the online fellowship application system be utilized. This form should be sent to the mentor by the candidate.
- From other referees: At least three letters of recommendation from experts who know the prospective fellow, either from the fellow’s home institution or from another, discussing the fellow’s strengths and chances of succeeding in a clinical or research career. The recommended fellow’s degree mentor should submit one of these letters. If appropriate, a letter from the home institution explaining the type of position that will be available after the fellowship period is over and stating that the fellow will be welcomed back to the institution.
