Qualifications for HFSP Fellowships
The following criteria must be met in order for an applicant to be eligible for a postdoctoral fellowship in the Human Frontier Science Program:
• English is the Required Language
• All nations in the world are eligible.
• Candidates must indicate that they would like to work in a different nation than the one in which they completed their initial post-doctoral studies or their Ph.D. The nation where the laboratory is situated will be regarded as the host nation for organizations that are not categorized as national, such as international or extraterritorial organizations like EMBL, ICPT, or ICGEB.
- Although it is not necessary at the time of submission, a research doctorate (Ph.D.) or a doctorate-level degree equal to a Ph.D. with comparable expertise in fundamental research (such as a research-based MD or medical Ph.D.) must be awarded by the beginning of the fellowship.
• Candidates must have at least one lead author and a full-length research work that has been published on a preprint server, accepted for publication, or in the press in an international peer-reviewed journal.Only English-language papers are considered. Patents and review articles are not considered.• When drafting the application, electronic copies of the publications by the principal authors must be uploaded. Once the applicant has submitted, they cannot be uploaded.
How Do I Apply for Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Human Frontier Science Program?
To apply for a postdoctoral fellowship in the Human Frontier Science Program, please complete these steps:
(1) A letter of intent that must be turned in by May 14, 2024
Candidates click here to submit a “Letter of Intent” (LOI), which needs to include the following details:
- Proposal title;
• Proposed research plan keywords;
• A brief synopsis of the proposed research plan (which, if invited, can serve as the abstract of the whole application; see below)
Personal details, a curriculum vitae, the field and title of a PhD, details about the proposed host supervisor and the host institution, a disclosure of prior work and publications with the host supervisor (if there is any indication that the host supervisor is aware of and supports the application), and a preliminary publication list with the option to update(2) The Letter of Intent will undergo peer review, and the findings will be shared as soon as feasible.

• Letters of recommendation from two referees - PDF files of lead-author publications;
• A recommendation letter from the host supervisor outlining how the proposed research plan is a new direction for the host lab and a significant change from the applicant’s prior work (either during PhD or postdoctoral training); • The host supervisor should also explain how and why their lab is particularly suited to supporting the HFSP’s goals and missions to enable the most talented young researchers to embark on a frontier research project that will shape their career trajectory;
