4,000 teenage girls are empowered to become engineers by a brilliant engineer who became Nigeria’s first female mechanic.
Sandra Aguebo, the first female Nigerian mechanic, has been successful in inspiring 4,000 young ladies to pursue careers as mechanical engineers.
Sandra Aguebo dedicated her life and career to assisting young girls in becoming engineers. She documented the remarkable achievement of becoming a female mechanic in spite of being widely mocked.
She has been in the forefront of developing female mechanics since earning a diploma in mechanical engineering from Auchi Polytechnic in Nigeria, West Africa. “I had to prove myself and work five times harder to become the first female mechanic in Nigeria,” Sandra told CNN.

Sandra reported that at the age of 13, she developed an interest in cars. Her father was surprised when she informed him and attempted to dissuade her. Sandra, however, was determined to follow her ambition.
Working at a small garage at the start of her career taught her everything she currently knows and how to train young girls.
Sandra set out to help 100,000 young women become mechanics and contribute value to the sector, which is recognized for having only men, a few years after earning her diploma in mechanical engineering.
She established The Lady Mechanic Initiative, a program that trains women from various backgrounds to fix cars and become financially independent.

By 2022, Sandra’s organization had empowered 4,000 females from across Africa, finished over 50 mechanical and technical projects, and investigated over 60 innovative engineering concepts.
